A few days ago, ideal car CEO Li Xiang posted a statement about MPV models on his official account, mainly talking about the design features and limitations of MPV products. As a result, some netizens commented under the Weibo and asked if the MPV model would be launched in the future. Li replied: no matter it is the add-on model or the pure electric MPV model, there is no MPV model in the future product plan of the ideal car because of the battery pack, passenger convenience and space.

Subsequently, some media confirmed the news to the ideal car CEO, and received a reply from the other side: ideal really does not have plans for MPV models at present.

According to public information, there is only one model, ideal ONE, which officially went on sale in December last year. Although ideal Automobile is also a new power car company, this first model uses a more complex technology path of add-on electric vehicles, and its power storage is composed of a 1.2T turbogenerator and 40.5kWh battery pack, that is, a plug-in model. The battery capacity is 40.5kWh, the fuel tank capacity is 45L MagneNEDC, the comprehensive mileage is 800km.

According to the original idea, the ideal car had a plan for the MPV model. In August last year, when the ideal ONE was not yet on the market, it was reported that the ideal would present its second model in the form of a car and deliver it in 2022. But Li wanted to clarify soon, saying that large Sedan (car) products did not pass in the market analysis stage, so there is no pause, there is no such thing as a pause at all.

At the same time, Li also mentioned on his Weibo that ideal cars are mainly aimed at nanny dads, so in the medium to long term, only large SUV and MPV with three rows of seats will be developed to meet the needs of three generations of family users living in the same house.

Now, Li Xiang has announced that he will not launch the MPV model, which means that neither the car nor the MPV model will become an ideal car product plan, while the SEV (urban mini electric vehicle) model that the company once planned to launch in China has also been shelved because of regulations and market problems.

Li Xiang also mentioned the specific reasons for not launching MPV models, in addition to being unable to meet at the design level, another reason is that at present, the domestic MPV market has been basically locked, because in Toyota, Honda, Buick, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz these five major car brands, together with Toyota's upcoming domestic Sena model, will occupy more than 90% of the domestic MPV market.

What's more, sales in the domestic MPV market are showing signs of decline. According to the FIFA data, the cumulative sales of domestic MPV models in 2019 was 1.372 million, down 18.2% from the same period last year. Buick GL8, which always occupies the first place in the domestic big seven MPV market, and the representative Honda Odyssey are showing a growth trend, and it also shows that joint venture MPV models are seizing more market share. If you enter hastily as a new brand and new model, you may not be able to successfully seize a certain market.

Although ideal Automobile, Lulai Automobile, Xiaopeng Automobile and other car companies are representative new power car companies, their positions in the field are different. The positioning of Xilai car is mainly in the domestic luxury middle and high-end market, while Xiaopeng car is more inclined to the "young" consumer market, compared with the former two, the ideal is to be located in the group of nanny and nanny. Obviously, they do not have much overlap in market positioning.

However, as Ulai and Xiaopeng have gradually withdrawn from more models, the ideal car that has completed the delivery of the first model will also continue to think about the status of the next model. After all, the ideal car that already lags far behind will be widened, not to mention that the current ideal ONE is not entirely a pure electric model, coupled with the addition of the domestic Tesla brand, the market of new forces will also be full of more challenges.
