According to the data released by the Passenger Association on March 1 - 8, the retail sales volume of passenger cars in the first half of March (January-15) decreased by 47% year-on-year, among which the average daily retail sales volume in the first week (January-8) was 16666 vehicles, down 50% year-on-year, and the average daily retail sales volume in the second week (September-15) was 21696 vehicles, down 44% year-on-year.

Entering March, the situation of the domestic automobile market is still not optimistic. The retail sales volume in the first half of the month has dropped by almost half, but compared with the 61% decline trend in the last week of February, the retail sales volume in March has recovered somewhat.

According to the association, the phenomenon of demand explosion growth in the first half of the month is not prominent, and the policy stimulus effect will not appear until April. Consumer confidence in car purchase is difficult to return to normal at the end of March, and students basically do not start school, car purchase demand is difficult to erupt in the short term.

The association predicts that consumer confidence in buying cars will also be difficult to return to normal in March, and the auto market will remain at an all-time low in March, which is expected to gradually warm up after April-May. Compared with the 5.09 million retail market in the first quarter of last year, this year's sales decline is estimated at about 2.1 million vehicles, and sales are expected to be about 2.99 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2020.

Affected by the epidemic situation, the cumulative sales volume of domestic passenger cars from January to February was only 1.969 million vehicles, down 41% year-on-year, a record low. Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the Association, said in an article that the current epidemic situation has led to a serious slump in social consumption. Cars are the only short board of household consumption, and effective measures should be taken to promote automobile consumption. At the same time, in the case of extremely low international oil prices, encouraging residents to use more oil will greatly support the improvement of government revenue. On the whole, pulling the auto market is to stabilize social retail.

Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the Association, said that the core of promoting automobile consumption is to promote the popularization of private cars in order to have the incremental effect of pulling, and stabilizing automobile consumption requires the introduction of targeted policies to drive the consumption of the first purchase group. To this, Cui Dongshu put forward relevant automobile rescue policy suggestions. It mainly includes comprehensive measures such as increasing the number of automobile purchase restriction indicators, implementing purchase tax reduction, subsidies for new energy vehicles not falling back, implementing subsidies for mini-electric vehicles going to the countryside, and tax deduction for car purchases.

At present, many automobile enterprises have launched corresponding car purchase policies. SAIC GM Wuling has offered "1 billion yuan" travel subsidy, and the comprehensive subsidy for individual car purchase users can reach 11000 yuan. GAC Toyota, GAC Honda, Dongfeng Nissan and other automobile enterprises have also launched corresponding subsidy policies.

On March 18, Wang Bin, head of the Consumption Promotion Department of the Ministry of Commerce, said at the press conference of the Joint Defense and Control Mechanism of the State Council that he would further study and put forward policies and measures to promote the consumption of key commodities such as automobiles together with relevant departments, promote the transformation from automobile purchase restriction to guiding use policy, and support and guide all localities to formulate reward and compensation policies. Previously, the association predicted that if there is no strong stimulus policy at the national level, the negative growth of the automobile market will still increase further, and the retail sales volume of the automobile market is expected to be 19 million vehicles in 2020, down 8% year-on-year.
