Mercedes-Benz once again admitted production mistakes. Mercedes-Benz China filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration on March 20, and decided to recall a total of 4884 imported C-Class and GLC SUV cars produced from July 24, 2018 to November 26, 2018 from April 2, 2020.

Due to the deviation in the production process of this part of the vehicle, the airbag warning label of the incorrect country may be installed on the front passenger side sunshade. The legend on the label indicating the correct use of the child seat and the accompanying explanation may not contain Chinese and do not meet the requirements of the relevant national mandatory standards.

As a result, Mercedes-Benz China will check the correct airbag warning label on the sunshade for free for vehicles within the recall area, and replace the sunshade panel (including warning label) if it is incorrect.

It is not the first time that Mercedes-Benz has made a mistake because of the wrong installation in the production process. Prior to this, the models sold by Mercedes-Benz to the Chinese market have been misinstalled, misinstalled and anti-installed, and the rigorous spirit of German car manufacturing has been "ridiculed" by Chinese consumers many times.

In August 2018, Mercedes-Benz China filed a recall plan with the General Administration of Customs, recalling a total of 164imported Mercedes-Benz E 43 AMG 4MATIC vehicles because they forgot to install active braking assistance systems before leaving the factory. As the active brake auxiliary system can not be used, it increases the risk of vehicle collision. Mercedes-Benz explained that it was caused by a mistake in the production documents and triggered a consumer complaint and claim.

In July 2019, Mercedes-Benz found that the bolts were installed incorrectly. Mercedes-Benz China filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, recalling some imports of C-class and CLS-class because of possible mixed installation of bolts for engine turbocharger return pipe and crankcase ventilation pipe. Due to the difference of bolt specifications, the pretightening force of the connection may be insufficient, which affects the tightness of the connection between the turbocharger return pipe and the bolt, and there is a risk of fire.

Last August, Mercedes-Benz found that the catalytic converter was installed incorrectly. Mercedes-Benz China announced the recall of some imported GLE SUV and GLS SUV vehicles, which could not meet the relevant requirements of vehicle emission standards and on-board diagnosis system due to the mixed installation of exhaust catalytic converters, which may cause the on-board diagnosis system to give an alarm.

On January 10, 2020, Beijing Mercedes-Benz announced a recall of its domestic GLB model because the wire harness under the second row of seats may not be routed in accordance with the specifications, affecting the normal operation of the airbags on the side of the second row of seats, the early warning of seat belts and the warning of seat locking. It is worth noting that at that time, the domestic Mercedes-Benz GLB went on the market for only more than a month.

Another source pointed out that Beijing Mercedes-Benz's first domestic AMG A 35L model had engine pipes inverted in some new vehicles, which led to abnormal water temperature control of the vehicle, loud noise from the water tank fans working hard, affecting the daily use of the vehicle, and engine damage in serious cases. A person familiar with the matter told the media that some vehicles with related problems had been sold, and the manufacturer informed the car owner to return to the store for maintenance through an undisclosed form.

Mercedes-Benz has "missed installation, wrong installation, reverse installation" many times, which means that there are big loopholes in the production process. In addition, last year's sensation of the "Xi'an Mercedes-Benz female owner rights protection" incident, because the engine before the new car out of the 4S store when the oil leakage, and finally identified, a bolt left in the engine. The appraisal results show that the engine left the oil splash plate fixing bolt in the engine during assembly, and during the high-speed operation of the engine, the second cylinder connecting rod hit the missing bolt and made the bolt break the cylinder block.

It is hard to imagine such "low-level mistakes" in the manufacturing process happening to Mercedes-Benz, the global leader in luxury brand sales. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz cars sold to the Chinese market or manufactured in China have been recalled several times due to low-level mistakes, which should be paid attention to internally, otherwise it will only seriously affect the image of Mercedes-Benz brand in the minds of consumers.
