AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/26 Report--

Japanese brands, which have always been unoptimistic about the field of electric vehicles, seem to have been accelerating the implementation of this field in the past two years with the implementation of national environmental protection policies and the development of electric vehicles. Among them, Honda recently added a new energy engine research and development plan.

According to enterprise information, Guangzhou Auto Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. has changed its business project a few days ago. As can be seen from the newly added business scope, the manufacture of complete vehicles, special-purpose vehicles and motorcycles has been increased; the construction of automobile engine manufacturing and engine research and development institutions: more than 3 litres of diesel engines with a rising power of not less than 40 kilowatts, fuel cells and mixed fuels and other new energy engines. It means that Honda will accelerate the layout of new energy.

In fact, as early as 2018, GAC Honda has planned to invest a total of 3.27 billion yuan to build a new energy vehicle plant in response to the "double points policy." According to GAC Honda's plan, it will invest 2.99 billion yuan to build a new energy plant, with an estimated production capacity of 120000 units per year. At the same time, GAC Honda also invested 276 million yuan to transform the original final assembly preparation area into a new energy vehicle assembly workshop and carried out capacity expansion. After completion, the project is expected to have a production capacity of 50, 000 units per year.

However, in the layout of new energy models, GAC Honda has launched only one pure electric model in China. Last October, Guangzhou Auto Honda brought its first pure electric SUV VE-1, a model based on Guangzhou Auto Honda's "oil to electricity". Although it comes from the Honda brand, the vehicle does not use the Honda logo, but uses the concept logo of GAC Honda, so it is not a real Honda electric car.

With the domestic development of new energy vehicles as a strategic significance, and continue to accelerate the implementation, so that in recent years, most of the car companies have begun to accelerate the layout of this area. GAC Honda currently owns only this pure electric car, which seems to have lagged behind most car companies. Therefore, Honda, like other car companies in China, is also facing the pressure of "double points" assessment.

Of course, Guangzhou Auto Honda's new new energy engine manufacturing and research and development, not only pure electric vehicles, but also hybrid models (including plug-in). After all, for Honda, electric vehicles will not become mainstream in a short period of time, and pure electric is not necessary to reduce carbon emissions, so accelerating hybrid models is the core of Honda's current strategy.

According to Honda's future plans for new energy vehicles, cars with electric technology will account for 2/3 of all sales by 2030, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicles, of which only 15% are pure electric vehicles.

Honda China said it sold 11288 Honda terminals in China in February 2020, down 85.1 per cent from a year earlier, as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic. Among them, Guangzhou Auto Honda's February terminal sales were 7485, down 81.5% from a year earlier; Dongfeng Honda's February terminal sales were 3803, down 89.3% from a year earlier.
