AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/29 Report--

As a domestic battery manufacturer, BYD transformed into the automobile industry and once became the world's highest-selling new energy vehicle company. Even so, BYD is still pursuing more distinctive products. On March 29, BYD officially released its long-discussed "blade battery" to the outside world via live broadcast.

At the conference, BYD not only revealed that its current "blade battery" is the company's latest generation of lithium iron phosphate battery, but will also take the lead in its June launch of the BYD "Han" model, but other models have no plans for the time being.

It is understood that the "blade battery" brought by BYD this time has the advantages of high safety, long life and long life, which is also an innovation of BYD based on lithium phosphate technology.

Compared with the traditional battery pack, the space utilization rate is only 40%, while the blade battery pack adopts the CTP (Cell To Pack) design, which integrates the core directly into the battery package, omits the battery module link, and maximizes the space utilization by more than 60%, thus greatly improving battery life. When the storage capacity is equal to that of the ternary lithium battery, the blade battery has a safer advantage.

According to the national regulatory platform for new energy vehicles, a total of 79 electric vehicle spontaneous combustion accidents occurred from May to July 2019, of which 86% were ternary lithium-ion batteries, 7% were lithium iron phosphate batteries, and 7% were uncertain.

At the same time, BYD also brought the industry recognized as the most stringent testing method for the safety of battery cells, the "needle penetration test." The results show that the ternary lithium battery has a sharp temperature change at the moment of acupuncture, and the surface temperature rapidly exceeds 500℃ and begins to burn violently, while the traditional lithium iron phosphate battery has no open fire and smoke, and the surface temperature of the "blade battery" is 200 ℃ ~ 400 ℃. After penetration, the blade battery has no open fire and smoke, and the surface temperature of the battery is only about 30 ℃-60 ℃.

For BYD's "blade battery", some industry insiders also revealed that because the blade battery uses a rectangular design, the heat dissipation area is larger, and the loop is relatively long, it is difficult to achieve rapid heating in a short period of time, so the temperature rises more slowly at the same time, the safety will also be higher.

Wang Chuanfu said that although the "blade battery" is the first product of Fudi, a wholly owned subsidiary of BYD, it condenses BYD's more than 20 years of production and R & D experience in the battery field, and is also the aggregator of the advantages of BYD's battery industry chain.

According to the plan, the "blade battery" has been successfully mass-produced in the Chongqing factory of BYD subsidiary Fudi Battery Co., Ltd., and has carried out cooperation plans with a number of new energy vehicle companies, and will be developed and shared globally in the future.

As new energy vehicles have gradually become a major trend, various unfavorable factors of batteries as the main materials have also become the biggest barriers hindering the development of new energy vehicles. As a result, a number of new energy vehicle companies, including BYD, have declined sharply since the national subsidy in 2019. As the lithium iron phosphate battery with more cost-effective energy density and cost gradually matures, it will also return to the attention of car companies. Therefore, it is believed that BYD's "blade battery", as an upstart in lithium iron phosphate battery, will also receive more attention from the power battery industry.
