The General Administration of Customs said that during the recent inspection of imported cars at the port, two imported Audi vehicles (model A52.0T F5SDKYAF6A0) were found to have spontaneous combustion in the container. The General Administration of Customs has taken measures to suspend the import of vehicles of this model.

Therefore, this may also be the reason for the delay in the delivery of some Audi imported cars earlier and recently.

Immediately, the investigation organized by the General Administration of Customs and confirmed by Audi Company, the cause of vehicle spontaneous combustion is the risk of internal short circuit due to manufacturing and assembly process problems. Audi provided a list of imported Audi brand vehicles equipped with the same starting motor, including A42.0T, A52.0T, A62.0T and A72.0T models, some of which have entered the domestic market.

According to the list, there are 1868 Audi imported vehicles involved in the risk of spontaneous combustion, of which 645 have been sold and delivered to users, while the rest are in "dealer inventory".

Audi's solution is to eliminate risks by replacing new safe start motors. At the same time, the General Administration of Customs has asked local customs to strictly inspect imported vehicles to ensure that imported vehicles have been replaced with new safe starting motors.

The quality incident of vehicle spontaneous combustion at the customs port is also very rare in the industry. It is not clear when the General Administration of Customs will lift the import of this type of vehicle.

Audi brand data show that Audi brand (including imported cars) sold 688888 vehicles in China in 2019, an increase of 4.2% over the same period last year, of which Audi sold 630800 domestic cars and 58088 imported cars.
