According to previous media news, the declaration information of the new Buick GL8 model was exposed as early as November last year, and the new and old models continued to be sold in the same house, with minor adjustments to the appearance of both cars. However, Buick was the first to launch the Avenir 4-seat model, which was released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in February this year, and it was the new model released last night.

The two sets of model drawings released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that the biggest change of the new GL8 ES model is the redesign of the front face and rear, the use of a brand-new intake grille, the division of the headlamp group through the left and right chromium plating decorative strips, the corresponding adjustment of the internal structure of the lamp group, and the use of LED light source. The appearance of the new GL8 Avenir version is only shown in the details, including the forward air grille and the exclusive logo.

If Buick is only listed on the Avenir version of GL8, it may be impossible for GL8, which has a "lofty" status in the domestic MPV market, to give up a relatively lower market. After all, since December 1999, the first Buick GL8 officially went off the line, and since then the model has occupied a place in the domestic MPV market. Until 2019, when both the domestic car market and the MPV market showed a downward trend, the Buick GL8 still became one of the rare models to reverse the trend, selling a total of 139000 vehicles, an increase of 6% over the same period last year, and far away from the Odyssey, which ranked second.

Therefore, for Buick to take the lead in listing the GL8 Avenir version, in fact, Buick hopes to consolidate the domestic MPV market through GL8 models. With the gradual increase in the consumption level of domestic models and the emergence of more and more MPV models, as well as the emergence of higher-end MPV models such as Toyota and Lexus, it seems that Buick is trying to capture this part of the market, even in various cases such as price increases. In the face of such models, GL8, as the "protagonist" of the domestic high-end MPV market, has undoubtedly lost part of its competitive strength.

At the same time, for the earlier release of new GL8 ES models and classic models, as more MPV models such as SAIC-Volkswagen Viloran and domestic Toyota Sena appear on the market this year, Buick will take them as models competing in the joint venture mid-range MPV market and adjust their prices accordingly.

According to Buick's new GL8 Avenir model, a total of three models have been launched, with prices of 529900 yuan, 465900 yuan and 459900 yuan respectively. The new car is based on the new GL8 and is designed to create a sense of luxury and class. it will offer 4 seats, 6 seats and 7 seats. Four of them are flagship models.

The new car adopts the Avenir family's exclusive mesh front grille design, which is consistent with the current model as a whole, and only adjusts the details before and after. The front and rear headlamps all adopt the new LED headlamp independent light source. The length, width and height of the new car are 5219/1878/1799mm, the wheelbase is 3088mm, slightly longer than the ordinary version.

The interior is undoubtedly the highlight of the model, following the design idea of the previous concept car, with a double 12.3inch full LCD dashboard and central control screen, with a 14.6inch HUD look-up display, and more exclusive designs for the four flagship models.

In terms of power, the new GL8 Avenir will be equipped with LSY 2.0T turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 169kW, which meets the sixth national emission standard.

Although the Buick brand has not performed well in China in the past two years, there are even signs of continuous decline. In 2019, SAIC GM Buick sales totaled 837300 vehicles, down nearly 19% from the same period last year, and the decline was lower than the overall market performance, but the cumulative sales of GL8 still increased year-on-year. Therefore, as Buick launches a broader positioning layout for the MPV market, it will also help Buick gain a sustained advantage in the domestic MPV market.
