On April 16, Ford China announced its sales performance in China in the first quarter of 2020, with sales of 88770 vehicles in the first quarter, down 34.9% year-on-year.

Ford China attributed the decline in sales in the first quarter to "the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic on the auto market in February." Affected by the epidemic, sales in several automobile markets, including China, have fallen sharply, resulting in suppressed demand for automobiles and insufficient supply chain.

Although sales fell more than 30 percent in the first quarter, Ford China said "new car sales are still better than market expectations." According to the data of the China Automobile Association, the production and sales volume of domestic passenger cars in the first quarter were 3.474 million and 3.672 million respectively, down 45.2% and 42.4% year-on-year respectively.

For Ford, it is a positive sign that its sales in China are gradually improving as the epidemic is brought under control. By the end of March, all dealers had resumed work as the new crown epidemic in China was gradually brought under control, the company said, with Ford and Lincoln brands returning to work at 100% of dealers in the local market. Sales in China in March have recovered significantly from February, when the epidemic was most severe, and have recovered to 75% of sales in the same period last year.

In terms of specific brands, Ford brand sales in the first quarter were 53,000 vehicles, down 29.1% year-on-year; among specific products, Ford led the world well, Ford China is the only model to achieve year-on-year growth, the sales volume of this model in the first quarter increased by 11.9% compared with the same period last year. The brand-new sharp performance launched at the end of last year was also relatively positive, with sales of 2700 vehicles in the first quarter.

Ford's high-end Lincoln brand sold 6,100 vehicles in the first quarter, down 37% year-on-year. Among them, the sales volume in March reached 2650 vehicles, showing an upward trend year-on-year and month-on-month. It is understood that Lincoln's first domestic model, the brand-new adventurer, was officially launched on March 12. By the end of March, Lincoln had delivered new cars to 750 owners. Ford said the Lincoln brand had gradually returned to normal levels and its sales since April may no longer be affected by the epidemic.

The sales volume of JMC brand in the first quarter was 29,800 units, down 42.8% year-on-year. Among them, sales volume reached 18,400 in March. That's 76% of sales for the same period last year. Sales of JMC Teshun Light Passenger and JMC Light Truck recovered rapidly in March, and sales in that month were close to 85% and 80% of sales in the same period last year.

Ford China 2.0 Strategy was officially released in April last year. As the core of transformation, it has been one year since then. Among them,"Ford China Product 330 Plan", as a strategic important entity project, plans to launch more than 30 new models in the Chinese market in the next three years, covering Ford and Lincoln brands, as well as 10 new energy models. From 2019 to the end of 2021, Chang 'an Ford will launch at least 18 new products for the sixth time, including 5 new energy models, to further improve the product camp.
