AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)04/30 Report--

On April 2, 2020, the General Administration of Customs issued a notice notifying two cases of spontaneous combustion of imported Audi cars in containers at the port. Audi confirmed that the cause of vehicle spontaneous combustion was caused by a short circuit inside the starting motor. In less than a month, Audi immediately launched a recall of 400000 cars in China, also related to starting generators.

A few days ago, FAW-Volkswagen Motor Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration and decided to recall some imported and domestic Audi cars in batches, totaling 391874. The details are as follows:

(1) some of the Audi A4Avant 2.0T and A52.0T cars produced from September 19, 2019 to October 30, 2019 were imported, totaling 1868.

(2) some domestic Audi A4L 2.0T, A6L 2.0T and Q5L 2.0T vehicles produced from August 17, 2017 to March 24, 2020, totaling 390006.

Recall schedule: recall imported A4 Avant, A5 cars and domestic A4L, A6L, Q5L cars produced before August 31, 2019, and domestic A4L, A6L and Q5L cars produced after September 1, 2019, starting from June 5, 2020.

For the vehicles within the scope of this recall, due to the manufacturing reasons of the supplier, there may be small injection air holes inside the inverter that starts the generator, and when moisture accumulates in the air hole, it may lead to electrolytic short circuit of the electronic components inside the inverter, which may lead to local heat accumulation inside the starting generator. In extreme cases, the possibility of causing a fire in the vehicle can not be ruled out, and there is a safety hidden danger.

FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. said it will entrust Audi to authorize dealers to replace the starting generators for vehicles within the recall range free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks. At the same time, in order to ensure the timely supply of spare parts, the starting generator recalled this time will use Audi's original factory remanufactured parts, and the remanufactured parts will use permanent waterproof paint to seal the conductive bracket that starts the generator inverter. in order to avoid the internal short circuit problem caused by water vapor entering the conductive bracket. FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. confirmed that Audi's original remanufactured parts fully meet Audi's quality standards, and provides a ten-year unlimited mileage extended warranty for recalled and replaced starter generators.

Before that, the two Audi cars that spontaneously ignited in the container at the port were all Audi A52.0T models, which were found during customs inspection. Audi said the cause of vehicle spontaneous combustion was the risk of internal short circuit due to manufacturing and assembly process problems in the starting motor conductive bracket. Audi also provided a list of imported Audi brand vehicles equipped with the same starting motor, including A42.0T, A52.0T, A62.0T and A72.0T models, some of which have entered the domestic market.
