As a leader in the automobile industry, SAIC today disclosed that KuaiBao showed that car sales in April were 417600, down 8.60% from 456800 in the same period last year. The cumulative sales in the January-April period were 1.0966 million, down 44.89% from 1.9898 million in the same period last year.

Among all the brands of SAIC Group, except SAIC GM Wuling brand, other brands have shown varying degrees of decline. Among its own brands, SAIC passenger car sales fell 380 per cent to 140900 from January to April and 26.67 per cent to 41500 in April, while SAIC Chase sales fell 15.94 per cent to 35200 and 1.94 per cent to 12200 in April. Although independent brands are in a state of decline, they still outperform the market as a whole.

By contrast, the decline of joint venture brands is even greater. Among them, SAIC Volkswagen's cumulative sales fell 50.40% to 303100 vehicles in the previous April and 16.14% to 120100 vehicles in April. SAIC GM's cumulative sales fell 47.65% to 289200 vehicles from January to April, and its April sales fell 12.35% to 110000 vehicles. SAIC GM Wuling was the only brand to grow, with sales rising 13.53 per cent to 120000 in April and falling 46.69 per cent to 285000 in the previous month. Although the sales of the joint venture brand have been greatly affected, it is still an important part of SAIC's 1.0966 million vehicles.

In 2020, SAIC sales have declined for four consecutive months compared with the same period last year, in addition to the reasons for the market recession, the continuing impact of the epidemic has intensified the pressure on SAIC. As SAIC's performance and sales continued to decline, Shanghai executives issued a special instruction last month asking SAIC to study the existing problems, including brand, quality and sales. At the same time, relevant departments in Shanghai will step up support for SAIC's nine major brands and a number of new cars.

From the April data, compared with Dongfeng Nissan, Geely, Changan Ford and other car companies have achieved sales growth in April, while brands such as Auto Volkswagen and SAIC GM are still unable to shake off the trend of declining sales. However, most brands are expected to achieve sales growth in May, as SAIC launched its multi-brand new cars in the form of "Brand Night" for the first time in Shanghai's first May five Shopping Festival, and introduced a number of preferential measures to drive brand sales growth.
