Data show that BAIC's new energy production and sales in April were 432 and 586 respectively, down 25.26% and 88.3% from a year earlier. From January to April, the cumulative production and sales volume were 6165 and 9586 respectively, up 79.74% and 68.13% respectively.

According to the monthly data released by BAIC New Energy, sales from January to April 2020 were 2006, 1002, 5992 and 586 respectively, with a decline of 55.54%, 65.05%, 66.13% and 88.30%, respectively. In the context of the gradual improvement of the domestic situation, the decline in sales has not narrowed, but further expanded.

In January, a number of car companies, including BAIC New Energy, saw a marked decline in sales due to the continued downturn in the car market and traditional holidays. In February, the COVID-19 epidemic broke out on a large scale in China. in order to avoid the spread of the epidemic, enterprises in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the automobile industry announced a suspension of production, making February the most difficult month of the year. Although there was still a certain risk of the epidemic in March, with the resumption of work and production, a number of car companies have recovered from difficulties one after another. The monthly sales of car companies are still lower than the same period, but a sharp increase compared with February. In April, thanks to the implementation of policies to stimulate the car market and the increase in consumer demand for cars, many car companies, including Geely, Changan and Guangfeng, have returned to the level of the same period last year. However, in the context of growth, BAIC's sales of new energy have plummeted, even lower than the sales level of the domestic car market in February, which is somewhat incredible.

In the new energy vehicle market, the sales of new energy vehicles have been declining in the second half of 2019 due to the decline of subsidies. Even so, BAIC New Energy sold 150600 vehicles in 2019, ranking first in the pure electric vehicle market for seven years in a row. Among them, BAIC EU series sold 111047 vehicles in 2019, making it the most popular new energy vehicle in 2019.

In 2020, the decline of BAIC's new energy sales has not improved. From January to April 2020, BAIC's new energy sales plummeted 68.13% to 9586 vehicles. Although the decline in sales was mainly due to the epidemic and the impact of subsidy decline, BAIC New Energy car sales began to decline sharply in January, before the epidemic had a major impact. While a number of car companies achieved growth in April, BAIC New Energy actually fell more than all the single months of 2020. The reason for the decline in sales has nothing to do with the epidemic and subsidy decline, but has a lot to do with the quality of its own products.

On May 2, a car-hailing owner of BAIC's new energy network said that he stopped running when he was driving normally, with all the fault lights on and jingling. According to the owner's description, the car was driving at high speed on the viaduct at a speed of 70km/h, when the whole car suddenly failed and stopped moving directly, with passengers on board at that time.

BAIC new energy has been sought after by consumers in recent years because of its own advantages and high performance-to-price ratio. However, with the introduction of other mainstream new energy products, BAIC new energy can basically be described as "chaos", and all kinds of quality problems occur one after another.

In addition to BAIC New Energy, BYD, which also relies on new energy vehicles to "get rich", also failed to achieve growth in April. After the subsidy declined, BYD's new energy vehicle sales began to decline continuously, superimposed by the epidemic and the impact of the car market. BYD New Energy has gradually become a sales burden for the company. Sales fell 15.9 per cent to 31809 in April and 40.1 per cent to 93082 from January to April, according to KuaiBao, BYD's production and sales. Among them, BYD fuel vehicle sales increased by 36.1% to 18814, while new energy vehicle sales fell 45.9% to 12995.

At the end of March this year, the State Council announced that the subsidy for new energy vehicles and the exemption from purchase tax would be extended for two years, which is a positive performance for companies that rely on new energy development, such as BYD and BAIC New Energy, but at present, it has not attracted much attention from consumers. most consumers are still in a wait-and-see state, coupled with the subsidies provided by many traditional car companies to fuel vehicles, which make consumers willing to choose more reliable fuel vehicles.

Although we do not rule out the resumption of growth of new energy vehicles due to favorable policies, if there is a threat to product quality and personal safety, I believe that not many consumers will pay for it, and such car companies are not doomed to go in the long run!
