Toyota welcomes growth

Toyota bucked the trend last year, with sales of 1.62 million vehicles for the whole year, up 9 per cent from a year earlier, while the overall Chinese car market showed a decline of 8.2 per cent. In 2020, Toyota fell 1.2% in the first month, and the momentum of sustained growth was stopped. The decline was even more affected by the epidemic in February and March, by 70.2% and 15.9%, respectively.

In April, production and sales activities returned to normal, and the previous backlog of car purchase orders will also be released in the follow-up, so KuaiBao's analysis of sales of key enterprises counted by the China Automobile Association believes that China's car market is expected to see 0.9% year-on-year growth in April.

Toyota's official figures show that new car sales in china rose 0.2% in April from a year earlier to 142900 vehicles, turning to growth three months later. Among them, the Lexus brand sold 23150 units in April, up 6% from the same period last year; FAW Toyota sold 72000 vehicles in April, up 9% from the same period last year, with Carola, RAV4 Rongfang and Asian Dragon at the top. It is worth noting that FAW Toyota Crown has officially completed the suspension of production within April.

In addition to the listed Weilanda, C-HR EV, Lexus UX300e, Toyota will also launch a new generation of Hanlanda, new Carola / Rayling, new Weichi, RAV4 release PHEV and so on this year. Toyota has set a sales target of 1.76 million vehicles in China in 2020, which has not been adjusted.

Mazda sells 17000 units

After many months, the Mazda brand finally ushered in an increase in sales. Official figures show that Mazda sold 17091 units in the Chinese market in April, up 1% from a year earlier, of which 6844 were sold by Mazda 3 Oncella.

The April sales of the two major channels were 7071 units for FAW Mazda and 10020 units for Changan Mazda. No matter the number of domestic models, or sales, Changan Mazda is obviously better than FAW Mazda.

The new Mazda 3 Oncella has played a key role in boosting sales of the Mazda brand since it went on sale at the end of last year. Mazda 3 Oncera sold 6844 units in April, with a cumulative sales of 24170 from January to April, accounting for more than 45 per cent of Mazda brand sales in China.

For the rest of the models, CX-5 sold 3113 units in April, with a cumulative sales of 7900 units from January to April; Atez, a Class B sedan, sold 3095 units in April and 10036 units in January-April; and CX-4 sold 3976 units in April, with a total of 11141 units in January-April.

It means that, including domestic CX-8 and other imported models, there were only 63 units sold in April and only 195 units from January to April. The localization of medium-sized SUV CX-8 has basically declared a "failure", and it is still unknown whether there will be product updates in the future. Such a depressed sales volume is likely to eventually lead to the fate of stopping production and become the shortest-lived model made in Mazda.

In addition, sales from January to April were 53442, down 23% from a year earlier. Among them, FAW Mazda sold 21177 units and Changan Mazda sold 32265 units.

According to the plan, Onksera, equipped with Chuangchi Blue Sky SKYACTIV-X 2.0L engine, will be on the market this year, while a new domestic model CX-30 will be launched soon.

Honda continues its downtrend

Honda's sales in China totaled 113430 vehicles in April 2020, down 10 per cent from a year earlier, according to official Honda Chinese figures. Of this total, Guangzhou Auto Honda sold 58401 vehicles in April, down 11 per cent from a year earlier, while Dongfeng Honda sold 55029 vehicles in April, down 8 per cent from a year earlier.

Affected by the epidemic, Honda's cumulative sales in China fell 27% from January to April compared with the same period a year earlier to 335414 vehicles.

Honda sold a total of 1554433 cars in China in 2019, up 8.5% from a year earlier, and is also a brand that has bucked the trend, so sales are expected to recover this year.

According to the product plan, the new Guandao has been put on the market, and Honda will also launch Ling Pai Rui hybrid, the fourth generation Feido, Civic hatchback version, CR-V plug-in hybrid models and so on.

Nissan has not reported sales in China in April. Nissan fell 45 per cent to 73300 vehicles in March and 40 per cent to 343700 vehicles from January to March. The recovery is not optimistic.

China's auto market will have a decline in sales for three consecutive years, and the importance of brand survival will be highlighted under the stock competition. China's auto market will also usher in an important period of brand differentiation, and the market concentration will continue to increase. The revived brands will concentrate on the head, and some sunken brands may face the fate of marginalization and elimination.
