According to the data, retail sales in the national passenger car market reached 1.429 million in April, down 5.6% from a year earlier. From January to April, retail sales in the national passenger car market totaled 4.445 million, down 32.7% from a year earlier.

In terms of specific models, SUV rose 2.2% to 661000 in April, and cumulative sales from January to April fell 28.3% to 2.05 million; car sales fell 9.4% to 693000, and in the previous April cumulative sales fell 34.7% to 2.136 million; MPV sales fell 26.4% to 75000, and cumulative sales fell 45.3% to 260000 In addition, sales of new energy narrow passenger cars fell 29.9 per cent to 60000 in April and 49.6 per cent to 169000 in the previous month.

According to the data disclosed by the Federation of passengers, the domestic car market grew by-21%,-79%,-40% and-6% respectively from January to April this year. In April, the effect of resuming work and production in China is remarkable, and the policies of the state and regional governments to stimulate automobile consumption have been implemented. coupled with the fact that the car purchase willingness accumulated by consumers from January to March is gradually transformed into car purchase demand, new car retail in April shows a V-shaped reversal compared with January, February and March.

According to the ranking of specific manufacturers, the top 10 manufacturers with cumulative sales in April are: FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC-Volkswagen, SAIC-General Motors, Geely Motor, Dongfeng Nissan, Changan Motor, FAW Toyota, Great Wall Motor, Guangzhou Automobile Honda, Dongfeng Honda, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota. In terms of sales, FAW-Volkswagen once again overtook SAIC-Volkswagen at the top of the list, with sales up 11.1 per cent to 162314 vehicles in the month, while SAIC-Volkswagen sales fell 8.1 per cent to 129210 vehicles, surpassing 33104 by FAW-Volkswagen. In addition to SAIC-Volkswagen, including Great Wall Motor, Guangzhou Automobile Honda, Dongfeng Honda, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota and so on, there have been varying degrees of decline.

Although half of the car companies still failed to achieve sales growth in April, with the exception of a small number of models, most models have seen double-digit growth.

In the car sales list in April, the top five models were Xuanyi, Lang Yi, Corolla, New Bora and Yinglang, all of which achieved sales growth, of which the new Yinglong increased by 97.4% to 22880 in April, the largest increase in the top five, while only the Carola achieved single-digit growth among these five models. It is worth mentioning that the Model 3 entered the top 15 in sales last month. According to data released by the Federation of passengers, Tesla sold a total of 3635 Model 3 in China in April, failing to enter the top 15 of the car list.

In the SUV sales list, the ranking of mainstream SUV models has not changed much. According to the previous ten lists, the top of the SUV list is still Harvard H6, although sales are at the top of the list, but it has been declining for many months. By contrast, Changan CS75's sales rose 168.2 per cent to 20083 in April, compared with 3506 Harvard H6. In addition to Changan, Geely Boyue, BYD Song, Harvard M6, Volkswagen Tanyue, Toyota RAV4 and other models have all achieved sales growth, of which BYD Song's sales rose 715.5% to 15967 in April, compared with 363.7% to 14444 last month.

Unlike sedans and SUV, MPV models including Buick GL8, Dongfeng and Honda Odyssey increased sales in the month, while other models declined to varying degrees. According to the list, Wuling Hongguang easily topped the MPV, with April sales falling 0.2 per cent to 22672, surpassing Buick GL8, which ranked second, although sales declined in April.

As for new energy vehicles, Tesla Model 3 topped the list with 10160 last month, but only 3635 were sold in April, falling to third place, although the Model 3 still topped the list of new energy vehicles from January to April with 19705. The other two models in the top three were the Qin EV and the Ruiji PHEV, with sales of 5096 and 3999 respectively that month. In addition, there are two new powerful models on the list, namely the Lai ES6 (2907) and the ideal ONE (2622).

For the prospect of the future car market, the Federation said that with the car market sales gradually stable after mid-April, the car market in May has entered a post-epidemic era, and monthly sales are in a state of normal seasonal fluctuations. Although the overseas epidemic has gradually stabilized, the outlook for the global economy is bleak in the short term, and the supply of imported parts has not yet improved, so there are still hidden worries about the recovery of production and marketing.

In addition, due to the postponement of the Beijing auto show, the launch of new cars is slower than in previous years, and the recovery of the car market is also slower than in previous years. However, in the current policy, the postponement of the registration of five models in the importing country and the postponement of the production transition period of the national six emission standard particulate matter limit also alleviate the impact of policy fluctuations on sales peaks and valleys to a certain extent.
