It is well known that the overall decline of China's auto market has hit a new low since it was hit by the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020. Thanks to the gradual control of the epidemic, the domestic car market finally grew for the first time since 21 consecutive declines in April. However, compared with the whole automobile market, although the new energy vehicle market has achieved month-on-month improvement, there is still no inflection point compared with the same period last year.

A few days ago, figures released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that domestic car production and sales in April were 2.102 million and 2.07 million respectively, up 46.6% and 43.5% respectively from the previous month, and 2.3% and 4.4% respectively over the same period last year. This also means that April's performance was not only the first correction in the domestic car market this year, but also ended 21 consecutive months of decline.

In spite of this, the overall performance of new energy this year is still not optimistic, although sales achieved a small month-on-month growth of 9.7%, which was also released by consumption in previous months, while overall sales fell by 26.5% to 72000 vehicles. Obviously, since the implementation of the new energy policy in 2019, the weak sales of new energy vehicles in China has not changed. To this end, the cumulative sales of new energy vehicles fell sharply in the first four months, totaling only 205000 vehicles, down 43.4 percent from the same period last year.

According to the performance of vehicle classification, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles completed 57000 and 51000 respectively in April, down 31.4% and 28.6% respectively over the same period last year; the production of plug-in hybrid vehicles completed 23000, up 16.8% from the same period last year, and sales completed 20000, down 20.7% from the same period last year; and the production and sales of fuel cell vehicles completed 109 and 73 respectively, an increase of 11.1% and 9.4% respectively.

Obviously, the decline of pure electric models is still significantly larger than that of plug-in models, thanks to the recovery of joint venture car operators such as Anford and brilliance BMW. According to the performance of the April sales ranking, Changan Ford Rui Jian mixed version appeared on the sales list for the first time, with cumulative sales of nearly 4000 units, and the mixed version of BMW 5 achieved a substantial increase of 53.1%. In addition, as a new power classified as the plug-in field of the ideal ONE also achieved a sales recovery of more than 2000 vehicles. It is worth mentioning that although ordinary hybrid models are not new energy models, about 27000 vehicles were wholesale in April this year, up 30 per cent from a year earlier.

In contrast to the pure electric market, BAIC, which was once at the top of the list, did not appear on the list, which also shows that the production and sales of the 19-year ace model EU series have fallen sharply. According to KuaiBao, BAIC's official April production and sales, BAIC New Energy sold only 586 new cars in April, down 88.3% from 5009 in the same period last year. April production was 432, down 25.26% from 578 in the same period last year.

The same is true of BYD, the leader of traditional new energy. According to relevant statistics, BYD New Energy sold a total of 12995 new cars in April, down 45.9% from a year earlier, and has been declining for 10 months. even under the title of "new energy leader", it has not sold as much as its own fuel models.

However, in April this year, there were also particularly outstanding traditional new energy car companies. For example, according to official figures released by GAC NE a few days ago, GAC NE sold 4006 vehicles in April this year, an increase of 125% over the same period last year and 14% month-on-month growth. Although there are only three main models, the Aion S also appears on the sales list many times.

Compared with traditional car companies, as new power car companies, such as Weimar, NIO, ideal, and other new power car companies, their output has all shown a trend of recovery, of which Weima Motor sold a total of 1388 units in April, achieving month-on-month growth. Lulai car sales increased by 181% in April compared with the same period last year, up 106% from the previous month, doubling for two months in a row. Ideal delivered more than 2600 new cars in April, up nearly 80 per cent from 1447 in March this year.

On the whole, the performance of the new power market is slightly better than that of the new energy market, but because the overall sales volume of the new power is not large at present, the impact on the new energy market is only small, which can only show that the new energy vehicle market for personal consumption is gradually stabilizing.

With regard to the sales volume of domestic Tesla in April, Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the passenger Association, also said that Tesla still exceeded 10, 000 vehicles in April, but the sales volume was relatively weak, saying that the specific data had not been released. However, for domestic Model 3, the past time due to "arbitrary price adjustment" behavior, may still let Tesla be affected to a certain extent.

Looking at the new energy market in April this year, it is true that the overall performance has picked up or narrowed down, but this is also due to the stimulus of the recent upsurge of the futures market, and as the market gradually returns to normal, the new energy market may still be in the doldrums.
