Recently, Brand Finance, a British independent brand business evaluation consultancy, released a list of the "Top Ten Automotive groups with the highest Brand portfolio value in the World in 2020". In terms of national brands, German brands Volkswagen, Daimler (Mercedes-Benz) and BMW occupy three seats, while Japanese Toyota, Honda and Nissan are also on the list. American GM and Ford ranked sixth and seventh respectively, while French Renault remained at 10th place. It is worth mentioning that the ranking shows the shadow of Chinese car companies for the first time, with Geely ranking ninth with a value of $18 billion.

Judging from the list, German and Japanese brands are still the biggest winners, accounting for 60% of the overall ranking. Volkswagen, Daimler (Mercedes-Benz) and BMW ranked first, second and fourth with $113.6 billion, $76.3 billion and $45.2 billion respectively. Among the three major German automakers, with the exception of BMW, which fell slightly by 0.2 per cent from the previous year, both Volkswagen and Daimler achieved value growth of 9.8 per cent and 10.4 per cent, respectively.

Japanese Toyota ranked third with brand value of $74.8 billion, while Honda and Nissan ranked fifth and eighth with brand value of $34.5 billion and $18.9 billion. Among the three major Japanese carmakers, Toyota and Honda increased their brand value by 7.2 per cent and 25.6 per cent respectively. Nissan fell 4.8 per cent from the previous year.

American GM and Ford ranked sixth and seventh, with GM's brand value rising 2.0 per cent to $29.5 billion and Ford's brand value falling 3.9 per cent to $19.6 billion. French Renault remained 10th in the rankings with a brand value of $14.1 billion, up 5.5 per cent from the previous year.

In the list of the most valuable car brands, China Geely is undoubtedly the biggest bright spot. In 2020, Geely Motor's brand was 18 billion US dollars, successfully surpassing Renault Group to become the ninth on the list. The brand value increased by 16.2% over the previous year, and the brand ranking rose 13 places compared with the previous year.

Geely can be among the top 10 car brands, which is inseparable from Geely's influence in the world. In 2010, Geely acquired a 100% stake in Volvo for $1.8 billion, a move that caused a sensation in the car circle and made Geely famous. In 2017 and 2018, Geely had 49.9 per cent of Proton, 51 per cent of Lutes and 9.69 per cent of Daimler. Nowadays, Geely Automobile has become the leading enterprise of our own brand.

In terms of sales, Geely has been the top domestic independent brand for three years in a row, becoming one of the few brands with a market share of more than 5%. At the same time, Geely has a balanced development in cars and SUV, and there are many popular models.

On the whole, the ranking of automobile brand value has not changed greatly, and Volkswagen, Daimler, Toyota, BMW and other car companies are still in the forefront. However, Geely has become the highlight of the list again, which is both unexpected and unexpected. Geely has been recognized by foreign third-party organizations, which proves that Geely is becoming more and more influential in the world.
