According to the latest FordAuthority report quoted by foreign media, Ford Fusion (Ford Mondeo in China) retail program will end on July 21. Last year, Ford made its last update to the model, which was only a minor change, and added some new colors for consumers to choose from. At the same time, Ford officials also confirmed the suspension of production to Mondeo, but said it would be implemented this year.

However, the suspension of the Mondeo model is only for North America, that is, Ford does not plan to stop production of the Mondeo model in China, which means that the Mondeo model will become a Chinese special model again.

The Mondeo model is a global model developed by Ford at a cost of US $6 billion in 1986, which can be said to be one of the most expensive models in automobile history. the first generation model was launched in 1993 and has gone through four generations since it has gone through nearly 30 years of history. And in 2004, the second generation model was introduced into the domestic market, which can be said to be a model with a long history.

At its peak, it was able to gain a lot of market share in both the North American market and the Chinese market, but with the decline of the model in recent years, Mondeo was unable to achieve significant sales growth in all regions. Although Ford's home market, the United States, did not see a Mondeo model on the top 10 sales list nearly two years ago, it ranked only 20th in 2019. Of course, not only do Americans prefer more practical models such as pickups and SUV, but they are also on the list of Japanese models in terms of cars. According to the data, Ford Mondeo sold only 170000 vehicles for the whole year in 2018, a sharp decline.

Although the Chinese market, which is the main battlefield of Ford and the growing area of Mondeo models, has also suffered a Waterloo decline in recent years, with cumulative sales of only 17642 vehicles in 2019, after all, with the rapid development of domestic Japanese models, and the rise of domestic brands, the competitiveness of the Ford brand has been gradually reduced.

Of course, another reason is that the current generation of Ford Mondeo is very slow to replace in China, although from this generation, Mondeo hit the face of Aston Martin attracted a lot of consumers. But up to now, the Mondeo model has not been replaced for seven years, and it is still re-launched recently through configuration and minor modifications, which has made consumers a little aesthetic tired.

However, it is still a mystery whether the Mondeo model will stop production in China. After all, with the rapid development of electrification, fuel consumption and double points have become changes that Ford needs to face. As the North American market will find a replacement for the Mondeo model, it is also possible to replace the model with the domestic Mondeo. It's just that after Mondeo stops production in the North American market, the current domestic Mondeo models will continue to be sold for some time.
