In the context of the epidemic, a number of car companies have been forced to delay the release of new car plans, but BMW iX3 is an exception. "despite the uncertainty brought by the novel coronavirus pandemic, preparations are still going according to plan," BMW CEO Oliver Chips said at the annual shareholders' meeting on May 14.

The BMW iX3 is the first pure electric vehicle launched by BMW in 2018 based on BMW's fifth-generation electric transmission technology. The new car is the third new energy vehicle for BMW after BMW X1 plug-in hybrid and long-wheelbase BMW 5-series plug-in hybrid.

The BMW iX3 is based on the design of the BMW X3, but it adds a lot of design elements of new energy vehicles, such as the blue elements that can be seen everywhere, using a closed design while retaining the double kidney grille of the BMW family. the lower bumper is black through-through design, and the headlamp groups on both sides still use aperture-shaped daylights. In terms of configuration, the new car will provide a variety of different appearance kits, including front and middle screens of different colors, side window trim strips, door trim strips and rear bumpers of different shapes, etc. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4700 × 1900 × 1675mm and the wheelbase is 2875mm.

The interior of the BMW iX3 is basically the same as the current X3, which is equipped with a suspended central control screen, a full LCD dashboard and an electronic grip, which also adds a blue bar to highlight its new energy identity.

In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a motor with maximum power of 210kW, peak torque of 400Nm, battery capacity of 74kWh, and comprehensive mileage of 440km under WLTP conditions.

Although new energy vehicles have not yet become the main consumption force in the automobile market, major automobile brands have begun to speed up the production and research and development of electric vehicles. In terms of first-tier luxury brands, both Mercedes-Benz and Audi have launched their first all-electric models, compared with BMW's.

According to BMW's plan, a total of 25 new energy models will be launched in 2023, more than half of which will be pure electric vehicles, two years ahead of schedule. In the face of China's huge new energy vehicle market, in addition to the BMW iX3, the beam car joint venture between BMW and Great Wall will also produce fuel versions and pure electric versions of MINI cars.
