SAIC, the leader of Chinese cars, is the first to release May sales figures. According to KuaiBao, SAIC sold 473100 vehicles in May, down 1.63 per cent from 480900 in the same period last year, down 1.63 per cent from 1.5697 million in January-May and 36.47 per cent lower than 2.4708 million in the same period last year.

Among all the brands of SAIC, SAIC-Volkswagen, SAIC-GM and SAIC-GM Wuling provide most of the sources of sales, among which SAIC-Volkswagen can be said to be the "profit cow" of SAIC. However, SAIC-Volkswagen's sales have been very poor since the outbreak, with sales of 131000 vehicles in May, down 14.93% from 153992 in the same period last year, down 14.93% from 153992 in the same period last year to 434110 in January-May and down 43.26% from 765097 in the same period last year.

Also today, FAW-Volkswagen also released the latest figures, May sales rose 22% year-on-year to 186800 vehicles. FAW-Volkswagen once again left SAIC-Volkswagen behind, and the monthly sales gap between SAIC-Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen widened from 45600 in April to 54800 in May.

SAIC GM Wuling remains SAIC's only growing joint venture brand, with sales up 10.91 per cent to 122000 vehicles in May and 36.86 per cent lower from January to May to 407000 vehicles. As the "stall economy" is liberalized, SAIC GM Wuling sales may usher in a wave of growth. Recently, the "stall economy" has become popular, and Wulingrong Guangyi launched by Wuling has also become a "stall magic car". In order to adapt to the "stall economy", Wuling provides a subsidy program for entrepreneurs, which will invest 2.2 billion yuan in struggle subsidies. Wuling has become the first automobile company in the country to provide special subsidies for the stall economy.

For other brands, SAIC GM's cumulative sales fell 38.68 per cent to 425300 from January to May and 3.61 per cent to 136200 in May. SAIC passenger car sales fell 26.17 per cent from a year earlier to 193200 and 5.00 per cent in May to 52300. SAIC Chase's cumulative sales fell 1.17% to 51200 and rose 60.61% to 16100 in May. Although independent brands are in a state of decline, they still outperform the market as a whole.

On the whole, the current sales performance of SAIC-Volkswagen is obviously not optimistic, and the decline in sales in that month is only one percentage point from that of last month, which leads to the continuous recovery of SAIC-GM sales. Successfully surpassed SAIC-Volkswagen to become the largest brand under SAIC Group, while SAIC-GM Wuling and SAIC-Volkswagen only had a gap of 9000 vehicles, under the leadership of "stall economy". SAIC GM Wuling will be popular in June, and if SAIC Volkswagen sales still do not pick up significantly, it may be overtaken by SAIC GM Wuling.

Under the background of the intensification of market competition and the cold winter of the car market, the current situation of SAIC is not optimistic. In April, a number of car companies returned their sales to the level of the same period last year, but SAIC was still unable to reverse the decline in sales in May, although the decline of 1.63% was relatively low. but it still implies that the current situation of the car company is not optimistic. However, SAIC is expected to return to year-on-year growth in June as sales of joint venture and proprietary brands grow.
