At the same time, the ranking of the top 10 auto companies was officially released in May, with SAIC-Volkswagen falling the most, with growth in Geely, Chang'an and Great Wall.
According to the report, the wholesale sales of manufacturers in May were 1.643 million, up 6.3% from the same period last year and 9.4% from April. On the retail side, retail sales in the passenger car market reached 1.609 million units in May, up 1.8% from the same period last year.
However, affected by the previous epidemic, wholesale sales from January to May totaled 5.963 million vehicles, down 27.8 percent from the same period last year, a decrease of 2.29 million vehicles; retail sales totaled 6.051 million vehicles, down 26.0 percent from the same period last year, or 2.16 million vehicles.
According to the top 10 passenger car manufacturers in May, FAW-Volkswagen firmly ranked first with sales of 184000 vehicles, SAIC GM surpassed SAIC-Volkswagen to second place, and SAIC-Volkswagen had the biggest decline in sales among the top 10 manufacturers.
Relying on Volkswagen brand, Audi brand and Jetta brand to continue to make efforts in three different market segments, FAW-Volkswagen once again won the monthly sales champion. FAW-Volkswagen sales rose 36.5 per cent in May from a year earlier to 184000 vehicles, accounting for 11.2 per cent of the market. SAIC GM rose to second place, with sales of 136000 vehicles that month. SAIC GM is expected to see a rebound in monthly sales, thanks to the launch of four-cylinder versions of its popular models, centralized updates of a number of models, and the launch of a new Cadillac CT4. However, from January to May sales, SAIC GM is still a large decline, reaching-38.68%, more than the decline of the overall market.
SAIC-Volkswagen "lagged behind" and became the biggest car company in the top 10 with a decline of 15% in May, and the gap with FAW-Volkswagen is widening. Geely's sales rose 20.5 per cent in May from a year earlier, with cumulative sales of about 420300 vehicles from January to May, reaching 30 per cent of its annual sales target of 1.41 million. The other two independent car companies, Changan Automobile and Great Wall Motor, ranked 7th and 10th respectively. It is worth noting that according to the report of the Federation of passengers, luxury car retail increased by 28% in May compared with the same period last year, far exceeding the market growth, which means that the demand for high-end purchases of upgraded consumption has picked up rapidly, and some luxury cars are traded at prices, continuing to form a trend of dimensionality reduction and suppression. In fact, when the passenger car market continued to decline last year, the luxury car market was also strong, growing by 10% for the whole year. Under the stock competition, luxury cars will continue to reduce dimensionality, and the price war will continue.
Overall, a number of head car companies have resumed sales performance to accelerate the achievement of the annual target. However, the differentiation of car companies has become more and more prominent in the process. SAIC-Volkswagen has not stopped falling, or even continues to decline in double digits, and then SAIC-Volkswagen will face greater market pressure.
