AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/15 Report--
As SUV sales have risen in recent years in the global auto market, the performance of the car market seems to have weakened gradually, so that more and more car companies are starting to stop production of car models. Honda Motor Co. recently made a new decision to discontinue its low-selling sedan models, including the Honda Civic.
Honda's Japanese home market has decided to stop production of Honda Civic and GRACE models this summer due to poor car market performance and reduced demand for cars in Japan, Japanese media reported.
Honda is scheduled to stop producing the two models in Japan as existing inventory in its current sales stores is digested, meaning that the two models will no longer be global models and will become special models in some regions, including North America, where the Civic is currently selling well, and China.
However, Civic hatchback and Civic Type R models imported from British factories will continue to be sold in Japan. Honda Civic's local factory is located in Yuki-cho, Saitama Prefecture, and plans for the later period have not been announced.
According to 2019, the best-selling single model in the global auto market also includes Honda Civic, ranking fourth, with a cumulative sales volume of 821,000 vehicles, which shows that sales are commendable. Among them, the United States contributed 326,000 vehicles, accounting for the ninth place in national sales; while China sold 244,000 vehicles cumulatively, ranking 14th in the domestic car market, all helping Honda bring good sales support.
But according to Honda's fiscal year 2019, which ended in March, Civic sales in Japan were only 1619, compared with 5626 GRACE sales. Obviously, the two models add up to less than one tenth of the above regions, and sales are dismal. On the other hand, the small minivan N-BOX and small SUV VEZEL (domestic Binzhi) in Japan's domestic market have relatively good performance, among which N-BOX ranks first in sales for consecutive years, with sales reaching 250,000 units, while VEZEL also has sales of 50,000 units, so Honda has to make plans to stop production of Civic and other models.
It has been 5 years since the current Honda 10-generation Civic model was launched in China in 2015. With the increasingly fierce market competition, the five-year Civic has also arrived at the node of this replacement. Although the domestic hatchback version of Civic has not been listed yet, the three-compartment version may also face the possibility of upcoming replacement.
Because according to the rendering of the eleventh generation Honda Civic exposed by foreign media a few days ago, and the new spy photos of the eleventh generation Honda Civic Type R, the new model is coming soon. It is reported that Honda's 11th generation prototype will be officially launched in 2022, which means that the Civic model will be a "special model" outside Japan. This model was launched by Honda since 1972 and has undergone more than 50 generations of replacement, which also shows that it is one of Honda's important models.
However, with the rapid changes in the global auto market, more and more classic models have been discontinued because car companies have to stop selling models in order to save costs in order to achieve profit growth. Including Ford, GM Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz and other multinational car companies have announced plans to stop production of classic models one by one.
