At last year's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao auto show, Beijing Hyundai unveiled the 10th-generation Sonata model. A year later, the new car has not yet been on the market, but at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao auto show that opened today, the 10th-generation Sonata finally opened for pre-sale. The pre-sale range is 16.48-205800 yuan, and the new car will be officially launched on July 22.

In terms of appearance, the tenth generation of Sonata has undergone drastic changes, using the "Sensuous Sportiness" design language, large-size hexagonal intake grille almost occupies most of the front area, and uses a flat design. In the rear part, the new car uses the popular penetrating taillights, the light groups on both sides show a "C" shape, and the top is equipped with a spoiler design. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car is 4955/1860/1445mm, and the wheelbase 2890mm is significantly higher than that of the overseas version.

The interior decoration of the tenth generation Sonata is basically consistent with the overseas version of the model, and the steering wheel adopts a four-spoke design. In addition, the 10th generation Sonata is wrapped in lightweight fabric and leather in seats, door trim panels, central trim panels and central handrails to enhance the texture of the car.

In terms of power, the 10th generation Sonata is equipped with 1.5T engines of model G4FS and 2.0T engines of G4NN, with maximum power of 125kW (170Ps) and 177kW (240Ps), and maximum torque of 253Nm and 353Nm respectively. The 1.5T engine is also equipped with CVVD technology. In terms of transmission system, 1.5T engine matches 7-speed double-clutch transmission and 2.0T engine matches 8-speed automatic transmission.

With the market competition and the rise of independent brands, there has been a "retrogression" in the development of Korean Hyundai in the Chinese market. Figures show that sales of Hyundai in Beijing exceeded 1 million for four consecutive years from 2013 to 2016, but suddenly dropped to 785000 in 2017, with cumulative sales of 790000 in 2018 and 716000 in 2019. There is no doubt that Beijing Hyundai's sales will decline again because of the epidemic, rising 11% to 40017 vehicles in May, up from 192243 from January to May.

2020 is indeed a difficult year for Beijing Hyundai. Sales have declined for three consecutive years. What is even more difficult is that Beijing Hyundai has frequently traded prices for volume. In the eyes of consumers, it has become synonymous with cheap brands from mid-range brands. Brand image has suffered a heavy setback.

Judging from this new car that is about to be launched, the 10th generation Sonata shows a strong "desire for survival", but it is quite insincere in terms of price. now in the joint venture B-class car market, Accord, Camry and other occupy a front-line position, how should the new Sonata respond? Unless Beijing Hyundai wants to continue to implement the "price for volume" strategy, it will be a bit weak to get the new Sonata to bring better sales performance in the market.
