The WEY brand is a high-end brand launched by Great Wall in November 2016, all equipped with a seven-speed wet dual clutch transmission independently developed by Great Wall. The 7-speed wet double clutch transmission carried by the WEY brand not only controls the cost and price of the vehicle, but also makes more consumers optimistic about the strength of their own brand.

The WEY brand launched VV7 and VV5 models in 2017, with cumulative sales of 86000 vehicles for the whole year. In 2018, the brand camp expanded to four models, and sales increased by 61.39% to 139000 vehicles. But in 2019, WEY brand sales suddenly declined, with annual sales falling 28.28% to 100000 vehicles.

Behind the decline in sales of the WEY brand, apart from having something to do with the market environment, the main reason is that consumers have lost confidence in this young high-end brand because of the failure of the traditional three major parts-engine, gearbox and chassis.

The problem of abnormal gearbox noise in WEY models has not been effectively solved. Almost every model from VV5 to VV7 has experienced abnormal gearbox failure, which is also caused by the seven-speed double clutch transmission independently developed by Great Wall.

There are two kinds of abnormal gearbox noises. The first is the sound of an electric drill coming from the gearbox after the vehicle is put into the P gear when parking. This kind of fault is occasional and may disappear automatically when traveling many times, or be solved after brushing the computer program; the second kind is that the gearbox will produce abnormal noise in the process of up and down gear during driving. This kind of fault is more difficult to solve, and the same fault will still occur after repeated maintenance or replacement of the gearbox.

This is the case with the 2019 VV5 model Mr. Li bought in 2019. He said that soon after he bought the car, he found that there was an abnormal noise in the gearbox and made the sound of an electric drill when he put it into the P gear. He went to the 4S store no less than five times, but it was never solved.

Mr. Li said that the 4S store admitted that there was a problem with the car and was willing to replace the gearbox for him. After the replacement of the gearbox, the sound of the electric drill after hanging into the P gear did not appear for the time being, but the abnormal sound of the gearbox appeared again when the vehicle drove nearly 800 kilometers after the gearbox was replaced.

Industry insiders said that the abnormal noise of the gearbox when hanging into the P gear may be the sound of the motor jamming, the clutch may not be cut open, and the motor will get stuck if it is not cut into the P gear after parking, and the frequent abnormal noise is a mechanical problem.

On the problem of abnormal noise in the driving process, the maintenance staff of WEY said, "if there is an abnormal noise during upgrading or downshifting, it will not be solved by changing the gearbox, nor can it be solved by ten or eight." Because there are many gears in the double clutch, the abnormal sound heard is the impact sound between the gear and the gear, and that's the design principle.

At present, many models of WEY brand and Harvard brand are equipped with the 7-speed wet double clutch independently developed by Great Wall, these models have more or less problems of one kind or another, of which abnormal gearbox noise accounts for the main part, but the official has not given a clear solution so far, and it is inevitable that there is no clear solution leading to a decline in brand sales. As an independent luxury brand, there is still a certain gap between its promotion of luxury and the experience of car owners. In terms of product quality and after-sales service, WEY still has a long way to go.
