AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/25 Report--

The annual new car quality survey report of J.D.Power in the United States is officially released. According to the ranking, the top five brands of new car quality are Dodge, Kia, Chevrolet, Ram and Denisseth, while the top five brands are Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Audi, Land Rover and Tesla.

The J.D.Power 2020 Automotive Brand Reliability Research report was released in February this year, which is a reliability data statistics for three-year-old cars in the US market. The J.D.Power 2020 New car quality Survey report is based on the survey data collected 90 days after car owners in 50 states of the United States bought new cars, and finally takes the number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) as the measure of quality ranking. In other words, the lower the score, the higher the ranking, which means that the number of failures of brand vehicles in the survey is lower.

The new car quality survey report released this time, in addition to great changes in the rankings, Tesla entered the list for the first time and also became the biggest "bright spot".

At the top of the list are the Dodge and Kia brands, tied for first place with 136 problems per 100 cars. Compared with last year, the Dodge brand has risen seven places in the ranking.

Chevrolet and Ram tied for second place with 141 PP100, with Ram also jumping 19 places from last year.

Genesis, a luxury brand owned by Hyundai Motor of South Korea, ranked fifth with 142 PP100, and its performance remained stable.

There are 14 brands ranked above the industry average, half of which are American car brands. The 6th to 14th brand rankings are Mitsubishi Automobile, Buick, GMC, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Jeep, Lexus, Nissan and Cadillac. Among them, Mitsubishi, Jeep and Cadillac are also above the average this year.

The brands that have fallen fast on the list include Porsche, Toyota, Lincoln, Audi and other brands. Porsche fell nine places to 24th place with 186PP100. Toyota tied Honda with 177PP100, two brands known as the "industry gold standard", but both were below the industry average.

German luxury brands Mercedes-Benz and Audi also slipped in the rankings, and Audi fell into the ranks of unreliable quality.

The biggest "bright spot" of the investigation report was Tesla. Tesla did not allow J.D. Power to contact car owners for data collection, so Tesla never appeared on the list. Tesla later did not allow the company to collect information in 15 states, so J.D. Power instead collected samples from 35 other states.

Tesla's survey in 35 states shows that owners of every 100 Tesla cars encounter 250 problems, well above the industry average. Due to the particularity of the brand, we can see that Tesla also has a symbol on the corner for emphasis. Tesla's "quality control crisis" has always existed, only recently assembled and delivered Model Y models have encountered a large number of user complaints about quality problems. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said recently that it had launched an investigation into 63000 Tesla Model S because it had received a number of complaints about touchscreen failure of related models.

It is also worth noting that J.D. Power redesigned the test this year, thus asking more questions and providing more opportunities for users to record problems. Overall, PP100 is up from 2019, but as the company points out, that doesn't necessarily mean a decline in car quality.
