According to previous news, FAW Toyota's new plant will cover the complete production process, including batteries, with a total investment of nearly 8.5 billion yuan. the factory is located in the Ecological City of Tianjin Binhai New area, covering six major process planning, including stamping, welding, painting, final assembly, resin painting and battery, as well as logistics planning, corresponding automation, IT, civil engineering and other supporting facilities. FAW Toyota sources revealed that "the new model that the new plant will put into production in the future is a new new energy model outside the Toyota TNGA structure."

On the other hand, Guangzhou Auto Toyota is also planning to build an annual production line of 200000 new energy vehicles (the fourth production line), which is scheduled to be completed in September 2020 and put into production in March 2021. It has planned three pure electric models in advance, namely, the C-HR EV, the pure electric large SUV and the pure electric MPV.

It means that with the launch of the new production line of the two joint ventures, Toyota will increase its annual production capacity in China by 400000 vehicles per year, all of which will be used for the production of new energy vehicles. The plan further promotes Toyota's new energy vehicle program in China, while meeting market demand and new energy points requirements.

Not long ago, Toyota filed patents for two pure electric SUV models in China, both of which are based on Toyota's e-TNGA architecture, one of which is a medium-to-large SUV and the other is a compact SUV.

According to Toyota's plan, Toyota will introduce 10 electric models to China by 2025, including 3 SUV, 1 station wagon and 2 MPV models.

In addition, in November 2019, Toyota signed a joint venture agreement with BYD to set up a pure electric vehicle research and development company. In April 2020, Toyota and BYD jointly announced the formal establishment of BYD Toyota Electric vehicle Technology Co., Ltd., each with a 50% stake in the joint venture company. Its main business includes the design, research and development of pure electric vehicles and their platforms and parts.

According to an official document from BYD, the cooperation includes the joint development of pure electric models for cars and low-chassis SUV, as well as the power batteries needed for these products. Future products will use the Toyota brand and are scheduled to be launched in the Chinese market by 2025.

Toyota's increased investment in new energy vehicles in China seems to be trying to compete with Volkswagen's strong electrification plan, and the completion of a number of projects means that Toyota has begun to accelerate its electrification.
