FAW Toyota's first MPV project was officially confirmed. FAW Toyota suppliers announced that they have won a project to manufacture the bumper and plastic tail door of the MPV model code 01roomD, which is FAW Toyota's first MPV model.

It is speculated that the new car will be the new domestic Toyota Sienna (Senna), which will be launched in 2022, while another joint venture company, Guangzhou Auto Toyota, will also introduce the MPV model to form a two-car launch strategy.

For the plastic tail door, many netizens expressed doubts. Industry insiders believe that the "plastic tail door" in the industry is generally polymer synthetic materials, which are molded by thermoplastic materials such as PP or TPO and SMC, with light weight, high strength, toughness and strength better than iron sheet, and are more and more adopted by joint venture brands and independent brands.

The new Toyota Sienna was officially launched overseas in May. The new car is based on Toyota TNGA-K platform, with 2.5L hybrid power and optional all-wheel drive. In the future, it will be introduced by Guangzhou Auto Toyota and FAW Toyota respectively.

In terms of appearance, the new Sienna has changed greatly compared with the old model, the new car's headlamp shape is narrower and longer, the introduction of chrome strip decoration further extends the visual effect of the headlamp, while the huge grille below is quite recognizable. The lines of the new Sienna are more complex and changeable, and the new car's Bhand C columns are all painted in black.

On the tail side, the new Sienna has a flamboyant taillight group design, which even extends to the rear fender. As a hybrid, the new Sienna also uses a hidden exhaust styling.

The new car also launched a sports version, which is equipped with exaggerated heat sinks on both sides, while Chinanews.com also removed the horizontal trim of the ordinary model and replaced it with a honeycomb design and blackened rims.

In terms of interior, the new Sienna uses Toyota's family design, with a 9-inch floating touch screen and a 7-inch driving computer display.

On the power side, the new Sienna will share 2.5L hybrid system with RAV4 Rongfang / Hanlanda and other models, which consists of 2.5L Atkinson cycle naturally aspirated in-line four-cylinder engine, motor, battery pack and planetary gear E-CVT gearbox dedicated to the hybrid system, with a combined maximum power of 246hp and a front drive. The new car also offers E-Four e-four-wheel drive option.

In terms of product planning, FAW Toyota will launch new Corolla, new Wechi, Yize EV and Rongfang PHEV models this year. In the future, FAW Toyota plans to introduce new models including a new generation of Hanlanda sister cars, a new generation of Harrier (Haiya), a new generation of Sienna (Sena) and so on. Prior to this, FAW Toyota de Cool Luze, Ruizhi, Crown, Prado have stopped production.

In April 2020, Toyota and FAW of China decided to reorganize the management system of the joint venture FAW Toyota. According to official sources, Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (TFTM) will become the overall enterprise of FAW Toyota, while other FAW Toyota vehicle and engine manufacturers will be included as its wholly-owned subsidiaries.

It means that the joint venture of TFTM is Tianjin FAW Toyota (TFTM), which will include Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (SFTM Chengdu), Changchun Fengyue Co., Ltd. (SFTM Changchun), Tianjin FAW Toyota engine Co., Ltd. (TFTE), FAW Toyota (Changchun) engine Co., Ltd. (FTCE).

FAW Toyota sold 738000 vehicles in 2019, up 2 per cent from a year earlier, according to the data. FAW Toyota sold 82210 vehicles in June, up 30 per cent from a year earlier, while cumulative sales from January to June were 350759, up 0.7 per cent from a year earlier.
