AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/03 Report--

According to the information of the State Market Supervision Administration, Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. is authorized to entrust Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. to file the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products.

Recall models:

A total of 1440 Prius cars manufactured between February 11, 2014 and September 25, 2015 will be recalled from now on.

Reasons for recall:

The vehicles within the scope of this recall are due to imperfect control procedures for abnormal judgment in the hybrid power system, and the components of the booster circuit are damaged when the vehicle is driving at a very low speed, rapid acceleration and other high loads, the vehicle should have entered the safe driving mode, but sometimes it can not enter, causing the vehicle warning lights to be on, and the hybrid system may stop working and cause the vehicle to be unable to drive, resulting in safety risks.

Solution:

Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. Changchun Fengyue Co., Ltd. will modify the control program of abnormal judgment of hybrid power system for vehicles within the scope of recall, in order to eliminate safety risks, and provide a 15-year free warranty for power converter modules of related vehicles with unlimited driving distance.

It is worth mentioning that on June 28th, shortly after, Toyota announced a worldwide recall of 752000 Prius and Prius V models. It is understood that the recall is the 2013-2015 Prius and the 2014-2017 Prius V. the reason for the recall is that the hybrid system may be defective and will not be able to enter safe driving mode if there is a system failure and needs to be repaired to eliminate safety risks. Toyota said that when the vehicle cannot enter safe driving mode, it may lose power and stall, increasing the risk of accidents at high speed.

As we all know, the Prius is Toyota's first hybrid car, which was launched in October 1997 and went on sale in China in January 2006. However, as Toyota's first hybrid model, the number of recalls is not to be underestimated.

In 2015, Toyota recalled 625000 Prius vehicles worldwide due to faulty motor control software; in 2018, Toyota recalled 2.4 million Prius and Auris hybrids because of a flameout failure; and in April 2020, Toyota recalled another 270000 Prius cars because of uneven brake pedals. Coupled with the recall of the Toyota Prius in June due to defects in the hybrid system, the Toyota Prius recalled more than 4 million vehicles in five years.

Judging from the reasons for the above recalls, the biggest defect of the Toyota hybrid system carried by the Prius is the power outage and braking problems.

However, it is not clear whether the FAW Toyota Prius recall is directly related to Toyota's global recall. According to previous media reports, Toyota's global recall of 752000 Prius and Prius V does not involve the Chinese market, because sales of the Prius have been suspended in China since the Prius was listed in China in 2006, so the recall does not involve the Chinese market. However, it is undeniable that both the FAW Toyota recall and the Toyota global recall of the Prius are due to defects in the hybrid system. Toyota has been walking for more than 20 years since the first hybrid model was launched. however, it is puzzling that the car turns over frequently on the hybrid system.
