A video preview of the turbocharged Mazda 3 performance version was released at the end of last month and announced its official launch in the United States on July 8, according to a recent official release from Mazda. Surprisingly, Mazda released the new car in advance in Mexico and announced that it would go on sale there on July 20.

It comes from the same 2.5T Skyactiv-G engine on the CX-9, which is actually the so-called performance version of Mazda 3. In appearance, there is no significant difference between the Mazda 3 performance version and the ordinary version, only in details such as rearview mirrors and 18-inch rims are painted in black.

After all, the biggest feature of this performance version of Mazda 3 is the replacement of a 2.5T SKYACTIV-G turbocharged engine with a maximum power of 230hp and a peak torque of 420Nm. In the part of transmission system, the new car matches the 6-speed automatic transmission and is equipped with four-wheel drive system.

So far, Mazda 3 overseas models have six different engines, including three 1.5L/2.0L/2.5L naturally aspirated gasoline engines, a 1.8T diesel engine and a 2.0L compression ignition engine. With the addition of the 2.5T model, Mazda 3 has further enriched its power options.

It is understood that the current Mazda 3 performance version will only be available in the hatchback, while the hatchback version is expected to be unveiled in 2021. The model will be divided into two configurations in Mexico, with a low-end version priced at 489900 pesos (about 154600 yuan) and a high-end version priced at 529900 pesos (about 167200 yuan).

As for when the Mazda 3 with 2.5T engine will be introduced into China, there is no final conclusion for the time being. In fact, it is normal to have no chance with China, because not long ago, the new Changan Mazda CX-30 has been listed in China as a substitute for the Mazda 3 hatchback version. Compared with the performance minority hobby, the hatchback design with SUV low configuration may be more in line with Chinese consumers. The possibility of introducing the 2.5T turbocharged version of Mazda 3 into China is very small.
