AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/16 Report--

For Toyota, it seems that the launch of new models this year is far from the speed of stopping production, following the discontinuation of a number of classic models, Toyota recently announced the suspension of a classic model, YARiS (Yaris). Although Toyota still has derivative models of the YARiS for the domestic market, the suspension of production in overseas markets highlights the overall downward environment in which Toyota is gradually considering costs and cutting less profitable models.

According to Toyota's plan, the 2020 Toyota YARiS is about to end sales in North America, and there will be no 2021 models. Production will stop in June this year, and sales will be stopped when they are sold out, meaning 2020 will be the last year for Yaris to sell in the United States, officially ending 14 years of sales in the United States.

It is understood that the reason for the shutdown is that Toyota sold only 1098 YARiS cars in the United States in the first half of this year, down 93 percent from the same period last year. As a result, Toyota North America said the above models would be removed from the product line because of unspecified safety reasons and declining sales. In this regard, in the North American market, the C-HR crossover will become Toyota's only subcompact product.

There are currently three versions of YARiS around the world, including the North American version of Mazda2, the Asian / Southeast Asian version, which is similar to the GAC Toyota YARiS L version, and the European / Japanese version. At present, Toyota announced the suspension of production is for the American version of the model from the Mazda2.

At the beginning of its launch, the YARiS model launched a total of four-door and five-door models in the United States at an affordable price, but as the model languished in the United States, Toyota re-examined the performance of specific models in the North American market, as the YARiS sold only 22000 cars in the United States in 2019, while the Corolla sold 300000, a world of difference.

As one of Toyota's classic models, Yaris first launched in the European market in 1999, and once became Toyota's best-selling model in Europe. Until 2005, the second-generation model was launched, and the model was introduced into the Chinese market in 2008 to be produced by GAC Toyota. At the beginning of the launch, there was still a large market for subcompact cars in China to help Yaris become one of the pillar models of Toyota.

However, with the rapid development of China's auto market, the performance of the small car market is gradually declining, causing more and more car companies to stop production of small models, including Suzuki, the "king of small cars", which has chosen to withdraw from China. It can be seen that the domestic small car market share has been squeezed.

However, Guangzhou Auto Toyota stopped production of the Yaris model and launched a derivative model of the YARiS that is dazzling. Judging from the current performance of the model and the market, the YARiS L car with low price, all standard ESP and other configurations, sales are also considerable. According to the data, the cumulative sales in June were 8656, with a total of 40230 for the whole year, ranking first in the domestic small car market.

In any case, Toyota chose to stop production of Yaris models in the United States because of its continued flagging sales. In the face of the current global sales decline and contraction, coupled with the impact of the epidemic, more and more car companies choose models that do not bring profits. All in order to achieve cost reduction, so Toyota gradually stop production of more and more models is understandable. Including Toyota's previous delisting of many classic models in the Chinese market, such as Lande Cool Luze, Ruizhi, Crown, Prado, etc., all confirmed that under the rapid changes in the automobile market, the business strategy and product planning of enterprises are also constantly adapting to the new market environment.
