AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)07/28 Report--

According to media reports, SAIC GM Chevrolet's new Malibu XL model will be launched on Aug. 24, the biggest change of the new car is the replacement of 1.5T in-line four-cylinder engine, the current 1.3T model will be replaced.

According to the declaration information previously released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the new Marebo XL continues the design of the current model in terms of appearance and interior. The body size is the same as the cash, the length, width and height are 4933/1854/1472mm, and the wheelbase is 2829mm.

The biggest change of the new car is that it is equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder engine that meets the national six emission standards, but the engine power data are general, with a maximum power of 119kw and a peak torque of 252N ·m. In terms of transmission system, the horizontal 9AT gearbox is matched with the engine.

The current Marebo XL has two power options of 1.3T and 2.0T, of which the 1.3T engine adopts three-cylinder configuration, the maximum power is 121Kw, and the peak torque is 240N ·m, which is matched by the CVT gearbox. By comparing with the above data, it is not difficult to find that the power performance of the 1.5T four-cylinder engine used by the new Marebo is not as good as that of the 1.3T three-cylinder engine, of course, it does not rule out the gap in the declaration information data.

The Chevrolet Malibu XL was officially launched on February 27th, 2016, with 1.5T and 2.0L power options. As one of the main Chevrolet models in China, the Malibu XL once became a popular model in the B-class car market because of its excellent performance-to-price ratio, but since the launch of the replacement model recall in March last year, the Malibu XL has only been maintained at about 4000 vehicles.

As for why the Malibu XL wants to change back to the 1.5T four-cylinder era, in fact, the reason is also obvious. As far as the Malibu XL model is concerned, after using the 1.3T three-cylinder engine, although the terminal has a greater discount and becomes the "price butcher" of the B-class car, there is no big improvement in sales, which is enough to see that the prejudice of consumers on the three-cylinder engine is much higher than the price discount, so for Mirebo, there may be a new way out only by adjusting the power system.

In contrast, SAIC GM has achieved good performance after replacing the power system of its models in recent months. Take Buick Yinglang as an example. After the four-cylinder model was officially launched in March this year, sales rebounded from April to June, with an increase of 97.4%, 55.9% and 99.1%, respectively. Yinglong sales with four-cylinder engines achieved immediate results. At present, the Chevrolet brand's Covalds and Covalds are equipped with four-cylinder engines to recover the market disadvantage, as the main Chevrolet models, also hope to return to the B-class market with four-cylinder engines.
