2020 will be a "difficult" period for the global automobile market, which will inevitably lead to a decline in sales due to the dual impact of novel coronavirus and market impact. As the Chinese market began to retreat from new energy subsidies last year, its market has been hit hard.

According to statistics from foreign media EVsales, global sales of new energy passenger vehicles in June were 230000, up 59.0% from the previous month, down 13.1% from the same period last year. The cumulative sales in the first half of the year were 943900, down 15.5% from the previous year's 1.1175 million. Although global sales have been affected, there has been a significant decline, but this is much better than sales in the domestic new energy market. According to the data, the cumulative domestic sales of new energy reached only 313000 vehicles in the first half of the year, down 44.0% from the same period last year due to the epidemic and replenishment.

This also led to the fact that BYD, the car company with the highest sales of new energy in the world from 2015 to 2018, was overtaken by Tesla. Even the list of single models with the highest sales in the world has been reshuffled, from five car companies in the top 10 last year to only BYD and SAIC passenger cars, which have fallen to fourth and fifth places.

In 2019, BYD, BAIC and SAIC, the three auto companies, sold more than 270000 new energy vehicles in the first half of the year, nearly 1/4 of the total new energy vehicles sold in the first half of the year. In addition, domestic car companies such as Geely and Jianghuai also appeared in the top 10, winning seventh and 10th places with sales of 47000 and 32000 respectively. The cumulative sales of independent brands are less than 160000 vehicles, which is a far cry.

From the specific sales list, the highest sales is still Tesla's Model 3 model, although affected by the epidemic, sales fell to 140000, but basically the same as last year's 160000, far more than four times the second place. This is due to the continuous increase in the production capacity of the Shanghai super factory Model 3, after all, Tesla was affected by the shutdown of the Fremont assembly plant for more than a month in the first half of this year.

Throughout the entire single model list, there are not many Chinese independent brands, and only one of the top 10 models appears on the list. it is conceivable that in 2019, the rankings of independent brands and multinational brands are almost opposite. The top ten are occupied by six independent models.

The second and third most sold electric cars in the first half of this year were the Renault Zoe and the Nissan leaf, with sales of 37154 and 23867, accounting for less than 50 per cent of Tesla's Model 3. Among them, Renault Zoe models benefited from its strength in the European market, accounting for 11.1% of Europe's new energy market share in June. At present, its cumulative sales are 36506, leading the second place, Tesla Model, 3 3342.

In spite of this, Tesla took advantage of Model 3 to help the brand defend its title as the world's best-selling new energy car company, contributing 72 per cent. At present, Tesla's cumulative sales have reached 179000, nearly three times ahead of Volkswagen, and far away from BYD, which used to be the highest-selling car.
