AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/07 Report--
Since the North American car market continued to shrink, more and more car companies have stopped updating their car models in North America, and after Chevrolet stopped producing Marebo, Cruz and Ford stopped producing Mondeo models, there are foreign media reports. Buick's Regal will also withdraw from the US market. Without exception, all the models that have been discontinued in the United States are classic models owned by American brands.
According to previous sources, Buick actually had plans to stop production of Regal in the US market in 2019, mainly due to poor sales, like other models that have been announced to stop production. According to Buick sales in the US in 2019, about 90 per cent of Buick sales came from SUV and crossover models, while only 10 per cent came from Buick sedans.
It is understood that at present, only Regal models are left among Buick's sedan models in the United States. In 2018, Regal also hopes to shift from the car market to sports cars and station wagons, trying to stand out in the highly competitive and declining midsize car market, but the results are not satisfactory. Regal sold just 11008 vehicles in the US in the third quarter of 2019, down 19.6 per cent from a year earlier. According to relevant data, the market share of cars in the United States has fallen from 50% in 2012 to less than 30% now.
Although Buick has not officially announced the suspension of Regal production in the United States, according to GM sources, Buick Regal Sportback (sports version) and Regal TourX (travel version) have stopped production. It can be seen that with the suspension of the Buick Regal, GM will accelerate the transfer to the SUV and crossover in terms of model layout. after all, the most popular models in the US consumer market are pickups and other multi-purpose models.
As a classic Buick model, the Buick Regal (Regal) was born in 1973 and has undergone six generations of vehicle changes. In December 1998, the fourth generation of off-line Regal was realized in SAIC GM and became the first Buick car made in China, named New Century. It was not until December 2002 that Fanya and ARIA Group participated in the independent design that the official domestic name was changed to Regal. Then realized the introduction of the fifth generation (second generation domestic) Regal in 2008, and listed the sixth generation (third generation domestic) Regal in 2014, which is still on sale.
In addition to stopping production of Buick Regal, GM has already announced that it will stop production of Chevrolet Cruz, Volanda and Malibu models, as well as Cadillac CT6. At the same time, Ford announced last month that it would stop production of Lincoln MKZ, Ford Fusion (American Mondeo) and other sedan models.
However, for the Chinese market, Buick will not stop production of Regal models for the time being. after all, Buick Regal models, as the main domestic model of SAIC GM Buick, have helped Buick brands achieve an increase in sales, with sales of 13309 units in July, up 11% from the previous month and 223% from the same period last year.
This is also due to the increasing market competitiveness of the environment, Buick Regal continues to achieve a substantial profit by means of price for volume, monthly sales of about 10,000 vehicles, but also basically returned to the previous sales peak.
However, compared with the past in the domestic joint venture brand market, Buick helps SAIC GM achieve profit support with higher profits, but now it can only make the brand brand power decline by means of price for volume, which is far less than Japanese and German brands. and can not support its "profit cow" title. At present, with the discontinuation of production in the United States, the model may become a domestic special supply model in the future.
