As a niche brand, Mazda has two joint ventures in China, FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda, while Mazda favors "Changan Mazda" in terms of new cars and new technology introduction. FAW Mazda has no new products for many years. Changan Mazda, which won a small SUV CX-30 and Chuangchi Blue Sky SKYACTIV-X 2.0L engine this year, has confirmed another domestic model.

According to China Electric Power bidding Network, Changan Mazda J59E pure electric small SUV project has entered the stage of equipment and material procurement, and this car will also become the first pure electric vehicle launched by Mazda in China.

Changan Mazda J59E pure electric small SUV project document also revealed that the project will transform the original production line, with a headquarters investment of 360 million yuan and a planned production capacity of 5000 vehicles / year. After the transformation is completed, the total production capacity of Changan Mazda comprehensive 220000 vehicles / year will remain unchanged.

From the perspective of capacity layout, Changan Mazda does not give too much market expectation to this pure electric small SUV, and the car is not a volume product in the planning. The J59E pure electric small SUV will also become the fifth mass production model under the existing product line of Changan Mazda, which already has four domestic models: Anksera, CX-30, CX-5 and CX-8.

According to previous news, J59E pure electric small SUV may be a special car in China. In November 2018, Mazda revealed that it would launch a new energy model specifically developed for the Chinese market in 2020, which is expected to be a small SUV to be jointly developed with joint venture partner Changan Automobile. Among them, Changan Automobile is responsible for purchasing parts such as motors and batteries, while Mazda is responsible for the body parts, including design.

Promote the cooperation between Mazda and Changan Automobile to develop local pure electric vehicles, or under the oppression of the double points policy.

In 2020, Changan Mazda brand new domestic model CX-30 is on the market, the price is 12.99-171900 yuan, the new car is positioned as a small SUV, equipped with 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, matching 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. And CX-30 and Anksera's "Chuangchi Blue Sky SKYACTIV-X 2.0L" compression ignition engine version will also be launched this year. As for FAW Mazda, there is no news of new car promotion for the time being.

Data show that sales of Mazda brands in China in July were 17750, up 4.1% from a year earlier, with FAW Mazda selling 6804 vehicles and Changan Mazda selling 10946 vehicles. From January to July, Mazda sold 115080 vehicles in China, down 6.7% from a year earlier, with FAW Mazda selling 47183 and Changan Mazda selling 67897.
