AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/10 Report--
As new energy vehicles have gradually become the major direction of the development of the automobile industry, more and more automobile companies pay more and more attention to this field. On Aug. 10, Hyundai plans to upgrade one of its models, IONIQ, to an independent all-electric brand.
According to Hyundai's plan for the IONIQ, the company said that in the future, the brand name "IONIQ" and the "number" representing the vehicle level will be combined as a way to name its models, which is both intuitive and easy to remember.
However, the IONIQ brand is slow to plan for new products in the future, especially at a time when automakers are gradually expanding their all-electric models, Hyundai plans to launch three new all-electric vehicles in the next three years, meaning only one all-electric model a year. The first model, the IONIQ 5, will be launched in early 2021, the IONIQ 6, the second medium-sized SUV;, will be launched in 2022, and the large SUV IONIQ 7 will be launched in early 2024.
The reason why Hyundai promoted it to an independent brand is that Hyundai Group has taken "IONIQ" as its new energy plan from the very beginning. According to the etymological interpretation, it comes from "ion" and "unique" respectively, which first appeared in Hyundai's long-term research and development project "IONIQ Project" specially set up for environmental protection. With the independence of the brand, Hyundai will have four brands: Hyundai, Kia, Genises and IONIQ.
As for the model named IONIQ, it is actually the first and only one in the world that Hyundai launched in 2016 to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric powertrain. Interestingly, Hyundai has promoted this name to an independent brand. But the IONIQ model is still sold in South Korea, along with conventional models of the Hyundai brand at Hyundai dealerships.
In response to the call of the South Korean government, Hyundai Chairman Zheng Yixuan put forward the latest plan to achieve electric vehicle sales after the South Korean government released the latest green travel strategy on July 14. these include the goal of selling 1 million vehicles by 2025, increasing global market share to more than 10 per cent and becoming a global leader in electric vehicles.
Zheng Yixuan also said. "because the development of environmentally friendly models in the future will directly affect the survival of Hyundai Automobile Group and is of vital importance to the country, the company has decided to achieve its goal."
The development of new energy has indeed become a new direction for more and more multinational automobile enterprises. Automobile groups such as Volkswagen, Daimler, BMW and other automobile groups have increased investment in the field of new energy, hoping to maintain a good advantage in the new energy market in the future. Throughout the current Hyundai Automobile Group's new energy model plan appears to be a bit slow, only one model a year do not know whether to win more market competitiveness.
At present, the new energy models sold in Hyundai are Festa pure electric version, Oncino pure electric version, Sonata and leading plug-in mixed version.
