Kia K5, a brand new medium-sized sedan, was officially put into production in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province on Aug. 14, Dongfeng Yueda Kia officials said. According to previous news, Kia K5 Kaiku, based on the third-generation i-GMP platform, made its debut at the 2020 Chengdu Auto Show, and the new car is expected to go on sale within September 2020.

According to the appearance of the offline Kia K5, the new car has changed a lot. The new grille is designed with a concave design, with a three-stage air inlet and an "S" type LED belt. The side is in a slippery back shape, and the iconic chrome trim on the roof is still preserved. The design of the tail adopts through-type taillights, and the internal light band design is dotted line design. In terms of size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4980/1860/1445mm, and the wheelbase is 2900mm, among which the wheelbase is higher than the Camry and Accord of the same class.

The interior of the new car has also been changed compared with the overseas version, using a large-size central control screen and liquid crystal dashboard, and the center console is slightly tilted to the driver's side. In addition, the center console has added a wood grain trim board to cooperate with the knob shift mechanism and piano paint panel to create a different feeling.

In terms of power, the new car offers 1.5T and 2.0T engines. Among them, the maximum power of 1.5T engine is 170 horsepower, the maximum torque is 253 Nm, the maximum power of 2.0T engine is 240 hp, and the maximum torque is 353 Nm. In terms of transmission system, the new car matches a 7-speed double-clutch transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Although Dongfeng Yueda Kia relies on the advantages of joint venture brands, its declining reputation in China makes its situation not optimistic compared with German and Japanese models, and the listing of K5 will shoulder the main force of Dongfeng Yueda Kia's upward development.

Data show that Dongfeng Yueda Kia sold a total of 130000 vehicles from January to July this year, down 13.9% from the same period last year. At the beginning of the year, Li Feng, general manager of Dongfeng Yueda Kia, said he set a sales target of 310000 units in 2020. Affected by the epidemic, Dongfeng Yueda Kia lowered its annual sales target to 270000 vehicles on July 22nd. In view of this, 41.7% of the reduction target has been achieved in the first half of 2020, which provides a buffer for Kia to meet this year's annual sales target, but whether it can rely on K5 to return to the track remains to be tested by the market.
