Several Japanese car companies have been affected by defects in fuel pumps produced by the Japanese auto parts giant Denso Company, according to CCTV Finance, citing Japanese media reports. Toyota, Honda and Subaru have recalled a total of 4.79 million vehicles among Japanese car companies.

It is understood that this part of the recall also includes models produced by two Honda joint ventures in China. Guangzhou Auto Honda and Dongfeng Honda announced a recall of more than 770000 defective vehicles in China on May 29 this year.

Among them, Guangzhou Auto Honda recalled a total of 396149 domestic series cars produced during the period from July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018. Dongfeng Honda recalled a total of 378625 domestic cars made between July 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018, both of which covered almost all Honda's domestic models in China.

The main reason for some vehicles within the scope of the recall is that the resin forming conditions are not perfect in the manufacturing process of the fuel pump impeller, resulting in insufficient resin density of the impeller. The impeller may be inflated and deformed under the influence of fuel, and interfere with the fuel pump shell, resulting in the poor operation of the fuel pump. In extreme conditions, the engine may flameout while the vehicle is running, and there is a safety hidden danger.

According to the previous solutions of Guangzhou Auto Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Honda Motor Co., Ltd., the vehicles within the scope of the recall will be replaced with improved fuel pumps free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

In addition, there have been related recalls in China since September last year, involving Mazda, Toyota, Mitsubishi and other brands, totaling more than 1.28 million vehicles. Among them, Changan Mazda recalled 77112 second-generation CX-5;. On April 18 this year, Toyota decided to recall some imported and domestic vehicles, involving more than a dozen models, a total of 257000 vehicles, including Toyota Hanlanda, Camry, Prado, Crown, Lexus IS, NX, RX, etc., as well as engine flameout due to fuel pump problems.

Denso company revealed: "in addition to large-scale installation in Japanese brand models, its production of defective fuel pumps are also sold to Ford and other brands."

It is worth noting that some foreign media reported that as early as 2016, Japanese Denso had discovered this potential defect, and may even supply parts to some car companies in the case of known defects. And at present, there are a considerable number of defective vehicles not in the scope of the recall that has been announced, which makes it impossible to completely eliminate this hidden danger, and some car owners are not even aware of this fatal defect.
