In 2020, German luxury brand Mercedes-Benz has launched as many as 15 recalls in China, and 800000 Mercedes-Benz cars have hidden defects. Mercedes-Benz, which has repeatedly had problems with its quality system, has announced a new round of recalls.

On August 28, Mercedes-Benz filed two recall plans with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and eight Mercedes-Benz cars found hidden dangers, which can still be attributed in part to "low-level mistakes".

I.

(a) starting from August 28, 2020, Mercedes-Benz recalled a total of 146imported C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS-Class and GLC SUV vehicles equipped with four-cylinder gasoline engines during the period from March 1, 2019 to March 12, 2020.

The bolted tightening torque of the oil supply pipe and return pipe of the vehicle turbocharger within the scope of this recall may not be recorded correctly. If the tightening torque does not meet the requirements, the mechanical connection between the oil supply pipe and the return pipe of the turbocharger may be affected. There may be oil leakage at the joint, and the leaked oil may come into contact with high-temperature parts, so the risk of fire can not be ruled out and there is a safety risk.

Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will check the tightening torque of the turbocharger oil supply line and oil return pipe free of charge by authorizing dealers to eliminate safety risks by carrying out maintenance if necessary.

(2) from August 28, 2020, a total of 1660 imported Class C and AMG GT vehicles with production dates from October 12, 2018 to September 30, 2019 will be recalled.

The vehicle ESP system within the scope of this recall may not be suitable for the type of brake installed. If there is a yaw rate sensor drift or brake vacuum supply failure, the ESP system may not respond as expected. This may lead to ESP intervention is not consistent with driving conditions, may increase the risk of collision or injury, there are safety risks.

Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will eliminate safety risks by authorizing dealers to update ESP software free of charge for vehicles covered by the recall.

II.

Fujian Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. decided to recall a total of 7312 domestic V-Class and Weiting cars from March 15, 2019 to June 24, 2019 from December 22, 2020.

In some vehicles within the scope of this recall, due to the supplier's production deviation, the mechanical connection between the spline shaft on the transmission shaft and the ball cage on the universal joint is not completely fixed, resulting in that the safety snap spring at the mechanical connection cannot be completely locked in a specific fixed card slot, which may damage the universal joint of the transmission shaft, and the damage will increase with the passage of time. This will lead to an imbalance in the transmission of the transmission shaft, resulting in jitter, which is then transmitted to the bottom of the vehicle. In extreme cases, jitter will affect the SRS (Auxiliary Protection system) control unit installed above the gearbox, at the same time, the control unit will misjudge the acceleration or deceleration caused by the collision accident, and mistakenly trigger the front airbag, increasing the risk of injury and collision of the front passenger. In addition, if the car owner ignores abnormal noise and jitter and continues to drive the vehicle for a long time, the wear and tear of the parts will affect the power transmission of the vehicle to a certain extent, and even cause the lack of power, and there are hidden dangers.

Fujian Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will, through its authorized service center, check whether the transmission shaft is within the affected production date for the vehicles in the recall area, and if so, replace the drive shaft to eliminate safety risks.

There is a view that, for the impact of product recalls, consumers will look at the cause and seriousness of the problem, such as Mercedes-Benz repeated recalls, and even some low-level errors, which will have a certain impact on the word-of-mouth of automotive products, and then affect sales.
