SAIC Volkswagen has confirmed another domestic new car, which is scheduled to be launched by the end of the year. A few days ago, SAIC Volkswagen held a new car launch conference, Tiguan X model officially unveiled, the new car is based on Tiguan built from the coupe SUV version, the most prominent feature is the "sliding back" modeling design, tail lamp style also changed greatly.

After Volkswagen launched Touang X and Tanyue X coupe SUV in China, Tiguan X is the third domestic Volkswagen coupe SUV. The new car will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2020. Although the market for this segment is relatively niche, it is also part of Volkswagen's strategy to deepen SUVs.

In terms of appearance, the front face design of Tiguan X is basically consistent with Tiguan L, while the details of air intake grille, front surround and lamp design have changed. The newly designed upper air intake grille has a larger area and a more refined lateral trim inside the grille. The lower air intake grille features a large high-gloss black colour scheme in the sporty R-Line style and is joined by a C-shaped chrome trim on both sides.

On the side of the body, Tiguan X's slip-back design makes the vehicle look tighter than Tiguan L, with the waistline extending from the front fender to the rear and slightly upturned, while there are also chrome trim strips running through the rear half of the body below. In order to match the sliding back shape of the roof, the rear windshield is also more inclined.

At the rear, the slip-back roof line extends to the rear, and the blackened roof blends into the rear windshield. The redesigned through-tail lights at the rear extend to the side of the body, with a three-dimensional interior design and a unique style, with a Y-shaped interior structure to further enhance its visibility. In the center of the through-type taillight, the words "TIGUAN X" are inlaid.

In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4764/1859/1628mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2791 mm. In terms of power, the new car offers 2.0T high and low power engines with maximum power of 220 hp (162 kW) and 186 hp (137 kW) respectively, matched with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox codenamed DQ381.

The interior of Tiguan X continues the design style of the current Tiguan L, with the overall driver-centered layout, 10.2-inch all-LCD instruments and 9.2-inch multimedia central control screen for high-profile models. Compared to the appearance of "young" style, interior modeling seems out of place.

For this "different visual experience" coupe SUV, netizens have different comments. Many netizens think that the tail shape of the car is a bit awkward, is a strange feeling. However, some netizens believe that the actual car may eventually look much better.

Entering 2020, SAIC Volkswagen lacks the introduction of popular models, resulting in sales difficulties, which have declined for eight consecutive months. In August this year, SAIC Volkswagen sales fell 3.97% to 145000 units at the same time; cumulative sales in the first eight months fell 29.53% to 856385 units at the same time.

Relying on the promotion of subdivided models, SAIC Volkswagen is difficult to get out of the predicament. In addition to the launch of the new Passat model, at the end of May this year, SAIC Volkswagen "Weiran" medium and large MPV also came on the market, priced at 28.68- 399,800 yuan. The whole series of the car adopts 2+2+3 seat layout, built on Volkswagen MQB platform, equipped with 2.0T low/high power engine, matched with 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox. Today, Tiguan X, a niche product, is hard to help SAIC Volkswagen bring significant sales growth.
