AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/11 Report--
Since entering 2020, the decline of the car market superimposed the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, so that the car market suffered an unprecedented impact. In spite of this, the luxury market has maintained a stronger performance than the passenger car market this year, with market sales and share continuing to rise due to the upgrading of consumption.
Retail sales of passenger cars reached 1.703 million in August, up 8.9% from August last year and the strongest positive growth since May 2018, according to the Federation of passengers. In this environment, luxury car retail sales rose 32% in August from a year earlier, up 3% from July, and the market share hit an all-time high of 15%. It is worth noting that this is still under the market tradition of the off-season of July and August.
In the luxury car sector, the Audi A6, which has occupied the top spot for many months in a row, was overtaken by the BMW 5-Series in August. Although the gap between the two is less than 300, the growth performance of the Audi A6 is significantly better than that of the BMW 5-Series. It is even the single model with the biggest increase on the list, up 46.7% from a year earlier.
Second only to the two models are the E-Class and C-Class models under the Mercedes-Benz brand, which reached 15894 and 14335 respectively in August, both up 23.2 per cent and 3.6 per cent year-on-year. Perhaps because both models are in the last generation of products, the discount has been further expanded. According to previous news, the new Beijing Mercedes-Benz E and C classes are currently in the road trial stage and are expected to be listed next year.
As for the Audi A4, which is also an Audi brand, the price of the A4 has increased after the replacement, resulting in a reduction in the number of consumers who want to enter the BBA luxury market through lower prices. it is conceivable that the previous generation of Audi A4 is already the best-selling model of the BBA sedan, so its annual sales have fallen by 30 per cent.
Compared with the BBA brand, the second-tier luxury brand models are relatively weak, with sales of less than 10,000 vehicles. Volvo's S90 and Cadillac's CT6 both showed clear signs of decline in August, embarrassing the luxury market's 32 per cent growth. Of this total, S90 sales totaled 2850, down 27.5 per cent from a year earlier, while Cadillac CT6 was 2009, with consumption down 7.3 per cent. Volkswagen's Huiang has suffered a decline in sales for many months in a row, and it is also rare to achieve sales growth in August.
In the field of luxury SUV, a total of 10 domestic models are on the list, including not only traditional first-and second-tier luxury brands, but also newly built models.
Among them, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5L and BMW X3 sold more than 10,000 vehicles. Among them, Mercedes-Benz GLC sold 15408 vehicles in August, up 28.8% from a year earlier, ranking first in this market segment. In the first eight months, Mercedes-Benz GLCs continued to take the lead with 108656 vehicles.
Since 2020, the Audi Q5, which has been in the luxury SUV market for several months in a row, has been squeezed by other models, mainly because the Audi Q5L has ushered in a period of downturn after the replacement, and its sales have recovered significantly with the increase of terminal discounts, but this year's sales are still far behind that of Mercedes-Benz GLCs.
Brilliance BMW X3 since its launch, sales have also maintained a relatively stable state. It sold 13126 vehicles in August, up 28.5% from a year earlier, with cumulative sales of 83544 vehicles from January to August, up 0.2% from a year earlier, which is very close to Audi's Q5 sales and is likely to surpass the former.
Tuang still maintains its advantage as a non-luxury high-end model and becomes the sales pillar of Volkswagen's high-end models in China. Tuen sold 7067 vehicles in August, up 9.9 per cent from a year earlier.
In terms of other models, the Cadillac XT5, Mercedes-Benz GLB and Volvo XC60 are all at the 5, 000-unit sales level. But the Mercedes-Benz SUV, which has been on the market for less than half a year and is the only compact luxury SUV with a price starting at 300000, has kept it on a par with second-tier luxury brands, further helping brands improve their competitiveness in the market.
And the new power brand of Lulai ES6, ideal ONE, August sales of 2840 vehicles and 2711 vehicles respectively, an obvious growth trend. FAW Toyota Prado has been removed from the list in August because it has stopped production. Ford explorers made the list for the first time, selling 2544 vehicles in August.
With regard to the performance of the luxury market in August, the Carriage Association also said that the price advantage brought about by the high-end exchange demand of upgraded consumption and the falling discounted prices of luxury models quickly led the recovery of the market segment. Among them, the top three share of luxury in 2020 was 10.7%, an increase of 5 percentage points over 2017, while the share of other second-tier luxury brands was 3.2%, an increase of 1.5 percentage points over 2017. To this end, the luxury car market for the whole year may go against the trend and reach a new high.
