AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/11 Report--

Since the new energy vehicle has gradually become the development goal of more and more car companies, as its most important parts and battery manufacturers, has become a partner sought by many car companies. A few days ago, several media reported that Daimler will cooperate with BYD and plan to carry a new BYD product, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery.

According to the Tramway report, a representative known as customer No. 1 visited the BYD Fudi blade battery factory a few days ago and visited and held talks. Its representative conducted an on-site audit on the module production line of Pack Manufacturing Department of BYD Battery Factory, approved the technical level, rapid response capability and automatic production level of Fudi battery, and finally announced that the beat audit of PHEV module passed smoothly, which means that the cooperation between the two sides is certain.

At the same time, the media exposed the photo of customer No.1 and Fudi staff watching PPT in the same frame, in which Fudi Battery is introducing part of the plan to customer No.1. The content includes production overview, BEV TT (that is, tooling testing) and PP (that is, trial production) delivery.

Although a number of clues show that customer No. 1 is Daimler Group, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz. However, neither BYD nor Daimler responded publicly to the report.

Of course, BYD and Daimler have partnered several times, including the launch of the luxury electric car brand Tengli a long time ago.

If true, it means that Daimler may abandon Ningde era to choose BYD batteries, as early as May 2018, Daimler Group revealed that it had signed a contract with Ningde Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), Ningde Times officially became a Daimler battery supplier.

The successive incidents of spontaneous combustion of electric vehicles have attracted attention both inside and outside the industry. after all, the current vehicles with spontaneous combustion are all from ternary lithium batteries, and the batteries provided to Daimler in Ningde era are ternary lithium batteries.

In contrast, "safety" is the biggest feature of BYD blade battery. in addition, blade battery also has the advantages of long life and long life, but its disadvantage is poor performance at low temperature and relatively low energy density. Ternary lithium battery can achieve relatively high energy density, but its high temperature performance is poor, and its safety and stability is slightly inferior to that of lithium iron phosphate. Therefore, at present, as long as the same range is achieved, security has become the advantage between the two.

In addition, there are reports that BYD will also supply power batteries to Ford and formed a joint venture with Toyota in April to conduct car battery research, or will consider introducing blade batteries.

According to the latest news reports, Ola K ä llenius, CEO of Daimler Group, said in an interview with the media that Mercedes AMG models will also be fully electrified in the future, with hybrid models first and then pure electric products. "the electric version will be given priority to new models in the future, and we have a clear direction, but this process will last at least a decade." At the same time, Mercedes-Benz has said it will launch 10 electric products by 2025.

It can be seen that as the world's cars move towards an electrified era, more and more multinational car companies are accelerating their plans in this area, as will the ever-aggressive Mercedes-Benz brand. However, the frequently encountered spontaneous combustion of ternary lithium batteries has caused some anxiety in the industry, so the safer BYD blade battery may become a parts manufacturer for more car companies to seek cooperation.
