A few days ago, SAIC Mingjue officially announced that it will launch at least two new models this year, named MG pilot and MG5.

According to the plan, the brand new SUV model will be pre-sold at the Beijing auto show, which opens on Sept. 26, and then go on sale on Oct. 17, while the new generation of MG5 will be available later. In terms of vehicle styling, both models adopt the latest family design.

As a brand new SUV model, Mingjue Pilotage does not use the usual alphabetic and numeric naming, but is named after the Chinese name "pilot". The front face with a huge intake grille and sports design is very visual impact, like a kind of "Maserati" vision. Details, the net is equipped with a "Trophy" English logo, but also indicates that the new car will launch the ordinary version and Trophy sports kit version.

The side design of the car body uses a relatively simple, through-type waistline design, with blade wheels and red brake calipers, the movement flavor is very strong. Although the whole is very similar to the Mingjue HS, and even feels like a mid-term modification of its model, I wonder if it will become a modified model due to the brand-new name of the new car.

The rear design is relatively insipid, the taillight group has been blackened, and the bottom is equipped with spoiler and bilateral two-way exhaust, which highlights the sports style.

In terms of interior decoration, the overall layout of the new car is quite similar to that of the current Mingjue ZS, providing a three-frame perforated multi-function steering wheel, a full liquid crystal instrument and a suspended central control screen. The central control and door panel area are wrapped in leather and soft materials to improve the texture.

In terms of power, the official has not released much information so far, combined with the positioning of the model, it is speculated that the new car will provide 1.5T and 2.0T power options. In terms of transmission, the new car will match the seven-speed double clutch gearbox.

Another Mingjue 5 is a model that the brand has launched before, and this launch may be seen as the brand's "resurrection" of the model, re-introduction to the market with the family positioning of the sports style.

The whole of the new Mingjue 5 has a very great change with the previous model, and the whole car has a sports atmosphere. The continuation of the newly listed third-generation Mingjue 6 waterfall type medium net intake grille, but the difference is that the Mingjue 5 grille has changed from an upright type to an oblique waterfall. In addition, the sharp headlamp shape, coupled with exaggerated intake grille has a great sense of impact.

The side of the new car adopts a two-stage waistline design and is connected to the headlights, which is full of muscle, but it can be seen that it is similar to a Korean brand model. According to the declaration information, the new Mingjue 5 car body length, width and height are 4675*1842*1473mm, wheelbase 2680mm, although there is a significant improvement compared with the old model, but the space size is still not as good as the new MG6, after all, you can know from the model name.

As for the rear shape, the new car did not continue to use the old two-compartment design, but formally adopted the hatchback, the whole car is relatively flat and round, while the use of bright chrome exhaust pipes on both sides also creates a full sports atmosphere. In addition, Mingjue 5 also continued the rear pilot lights of Mingjue 6, and it is obvious that the new car is also the main sports style.

In terms of power, the new Mingjue 5 will be equipped with 1.5L and 1.5T engines respectively, of which the 1.5T engine will have a maximum power of 173 horsepower, consistent with the Roewe i5 on the same platform. In terms of transmission, the 1.5L low-end model may be equipped with a CVT gearbox, while the 1.5T high-end model may be equipped with the same wet double-clutch transmission DCT280 as the MG6.

Throughout this year, the domestic automobile market has suffered from the market downturn and the impact of the epidemic, which has made it difficult for all car companies. It is now mid-September, less than 1/4 of the time since 2020. However, SAIC Mingjue still confidently announced that it will launch at least two new models, which shows that the current market is under great competitive pressure. As a result, the plan will be launched more quickly to regain the attention of the market.

According to the latest data from SAIC, SAIC passenger cars sold 56000 vehicles at home and abroad last month, an increase of 3.3% over the same period last year. Although the Mingjue brand remains the top seller of a single export brand in China, its overall sales performance is still lower than that of SAIC Roewe, another brand under the same group.
