As a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle owned by Toyota, the concept version of the second-generation Toyota Mirai was officially launched at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. In November 2019, Toyota's new Mirai concept version was unveiled in China, but the Expo was not fully open to the public at that time. In early 2020, Toyota officially released the second-generation Toyota Mirai mass production version of the official map. Therefore, the second-generation Toyota Mirai, which is unveiled in China, is likely to be a mass production version. Toyota officials have previously confirmed that the Mirai will start production in the second half of this year.

At the same time, Toyota is vigorously promoting hydrogen fuel cell technology in China and is cooperating with a number of Chinese car companies. The possibility of launching Mirai models in China will not be ruled out in the future.

The overall look of the second-generation Toyota Mirai has changed dramatically, but it still highlights technology and a sense of the future. The new car is based on the GA-L rear wheel drive platform under the TNGA architecture and is slimmer in overall size. the longer front engine cover and the roof shape of the sliding back highlight the sporty sense of the car. The front face of the new car adopts the big mouth style newly designed by Toyota, and the long light strip adopts split design, which makes the new car more recognizable.

It can be clearly seen from the side that the new car is designed with a slippery back shape, with its length, width and height respectively 4973/1884/1468mm and wheelbase 2918mm. The shape of the tail is thick and thick, and the taillight style adopts the design of through-and-through lamp belt.

The interior of the second-generation Toyota Mirai has also been specially designed, and the shape of the center console is more complex. The air conditioning outlet platform tilted to the co-driver's side creates a strong three-dimensional sense, while the central control screen is also tilted to the driver's side. The data show that the size of the central control screen is 12.3 inches and the size of the LCD instrument is 8 inches.

The power system is the biggest "feature" of the car. The power is composed of fuel cell pack for hydroxide reaction, hydrogen storage tank and AC motor. The specific power parameters of the new generation of models are unknown. But according to officials, the mileage of the new car has increased by 30% compared with the previous generation, to 405 miles (651.8 km).

As one of the types of new energy technologies, hydrogen fuel has better energy efficiency. Hydrogen fuel can be filled in 3 minutes, and the vehicle can only emit water when driving, which can achieve zero emission, which is better than pure electric vehicles in terms of convenience. However, due to the high cost, the difficulty of marketing and other factors, the industry has failed to develop effectively.

In fact, Toyota has already carried out feasible actions to promote hydrogen fuel technology in China. In October 2017, Toyota built a test refueling station, TMEC Changshu, in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, to explore the possibility of introducing hydrogen-fueled vehicles to China.

In 2019, Toyota successively reached technical cooperation on fuel cells with Chinese companies such as BAIC Foton, FAW and Suzhou Jinlong, and Toyota provided partners with key components of hydrogen fuel cells. In September 2019, Toyota successively reached strategic cooperation with joint venture partners GAC and FAW to comprehensively promote new energy vehicles and energy-efficient vehicle products, including cooperation in hydrogen fuel cell technology.

In June 2020, China first Automobile Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., Beijing Automobile Group Co., Ltd., Beijing Yihuatong Technology Co., Ltd., Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. formally signed a joint venture contract, and announced the establishment of "Joint fuel Cell system Research and Development (Beijing) Co., Ltd.", of which Toyota accounted for 65% of the shares and became a major shareholder. The main business of the joint venture is to carry out the research and development of fuel cell systems for commercial vehicles, so as to popularize hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEV) in China, thus promoting the development of hydrogen energy society in China.

It can be seen that Toyota has made a good reserve for the promotion of hydrogen fuel technology in China, and the Toyota Mirai is expected to become the first pilot model in China. However, according to the previous news, Mirai will still be sold mainly in Japan, Europe and North America.
