AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/16 Report--

The official App is bound to the vehicle for remote monitoring and control. However, a Tesla owner in Chongqing said that when he opened the Tesla App recently, he found that it had become someone else's car and could even remotely control the other party's vehicle. He is very concerned about security.

Tesla responded to the incident on the same day and publicly apologized for the "mistake."

On September 15, a domestic Tesla owner revealed on social media that his phone's Tesla App suddenly couldn't connect to his car, but connected to other vehicles, and could remotely control functions such as unlocking and air conditioning. By checking the vehicle location, the owner found that the connected vehicle was located in another city, Hunan, and his location was Chongqing.

Through the video, the owner also demonstrated a remote control of the in-car functions of Hunan Tesla connected to his mobile phone.

The owner also introduced that the Hunan Tesla vehicle mistakenly connected by Tesla App is the vehicle belonging to one of the owners of WeChat. When the incident occurs, the two get in touch through WeChat group and prove that the owner can indeed remotely control the misconnected vehicle through mobile phone.

This caused the owner to worry about the safety of the vehicle, he said,"I can string to someone else's car, then others may also string to my car, if I drive in the process of someone else's operation, high speed suddenly give me a speed limit to 80?" This scary question made him afraid to drive Tesla at ordinary times.

After the video was posted online, Tesla Vice President of External Affairs Tao Lin made a preliminary reply under the owner's Weibo video that day, saying,"Sorry, our staff will contact you as soon as possible."

In the evening of the same day, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. certified Weibo "Tesla Customer Support" issued an official statement confirming that the incident was caused by "low-level mistakes" and apologized.

The official said: "After thorough investigation, this is the maintenance staff mistakenly entered the similar vehicle identification number when replacing the on-board computer, resulting in a mismatch of information." We immediately corrected the mistake and took a series of measures to prevent such mistakes from happening again. We deeply apologize for the trouble caused to the two owners, and will maintain communication with them and actively assume corresponding responsibilities."

For the emergence of this problem, there are also many netizens raised doubts,"a maintenance worker, by entering a car identification number, can control other people's cars." How big a security risk is this?"
