AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/18 Report--

Bugatti as a top supercar brand, the price of each model will be as high as 10 million. But it can't escape the fate of being sold. A few days ago, it was reported that such a top supercar brand could be sold by Volkswagen Group to Croatian electric car brand Rimac, waiting for a final decision within the group.

Volkswagen Group is discussing the sale of Bugatti to Croatian company Rimac, the German magazine Manager reported today. The magazine quoted Volkswagen sources as saying that Volkswagen plans to complete the Bugatti sale this year.

However, Volkswagen Group Bugatti declined to comment on whether Bugatti was sold to electric car maker Rimac, and a spokesman for Rimac said it would not comment on speculation.

It is understood that Volkswagen executives approved the deal in September, but the deal has not yet been approved by the company's board of directors. Insiders explained that Volkswagen is likely to exchange the Bugatti brand and all its assets for a large stake in Rimac, which will be transferred directly to the Porsche brand, which has already acquired a 15.5% stake in Rimac.

According to the data, the main technology of Rimac 1 lies in electric products, and a pure electric supercar is being developed, which is ready to be launched in the first quarter of 2021. With the exception of Porsche, Hyundai and Chinese battery maker Camel both own Rimac14% and 19 per cent respectively.

According to previous reports, Volkswagen launched a program called Vision 2030 last year, according to which only Volkswagen (including Skoda, Seattle), Audi and Porsche brands will be retained in the future, while other brands are likely to be sold or cut off. Previously, the ultra-luxury brand Bentley, which is also owned by Volkswagen Group, was also reported to have been considered for sale by Volkswagen Group due to years of losses.

The epidemic has led to a downturn in the global economy, global car companies are facing challenges, and sales of ultra-luxury brand Bugatti are also difficult. But according to Volkswagen's annual report, Bugatti sold 82 cars in 2019. For this year's sales, Volkswagen Group also said that Bugatti will continue to make a profit.

Bugatti president Stephen Winkelmann said in July that although Bugatti made a profit last year, it benefited from sales of the 2.5 million euro Bugatti Chiron supercar. But COVID-19 delayed its decision on whether to launch a second model because of concerns about whether consumers would be willing to buy new models during the recession after the outbreak.

Even if Bugatti is sold, in the view of netizens, it is still Volkswagen. Volkswagen sold Bugatti to electric car brand Rimac, but Rimac paid for Bugatti through stock exchange, coupled with Porsche's stake in Rimac, Volkswagen retained Bugatti through holding Rimac.
