At present, Volkswagen's brand-new MEB platform factory has only three factories in the world, including the factory located at the headquarters in Germany and the Foshan factory transformed for FAW-Volkswagen in China, and this one will be put into production as SAIC Volkswagen New Energy Factory. Compared with the former, the factory is not only brand-new construction, but also the largest and most efficient pure electric vehicle factory in China.

It is understood that Shanghai Volkswagen's new factory started construction in October 2018. The factory is located in Anting, Shanghai, with a total investment of about 17 billion yuan, a total construction area of about 610,000 square meters and a planned annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles. According to the data, the sales volume of domestic pure electric vehicles in 2019 is only 800,000, which shows that Volkswagen has great confidence in the prospect of domestic new energy vehicle market.

As a new energy factory of SAIC Volkswagen, the factory not only produces ID. family models to be put into production in SAIC Volkswagen, including domestic ID3 and ID4 models already unveiled, but also pure electric vehicles of Audi and Skoda brands will be put into production in the future to create a brand-new Volkswagen Group new energy family car series.

It is worth noting that the first model to be rolled off the line at Shanghai Volkswagen's new energy plant is expected to be the all-electric compact SUV ID4.X. It is reported that SAIC Volkswagen ID.4X will be officially put into production in October, and its overseas version will be released on September 23.

Because in the middle of this year, the appearance and part of the information of ID.4 real car have been revealed on the domestic network, the appearance naturally continues the same design method and characteristics as ID.3, but the ID4 model is also divided into ID4 X and ID4 Crozz.

As we all know, Volkswagen Group's main sales volume comes from the Chinese market. In 2019, the overall sales volume of Volkswagen Group reached 4.2336 million vehicles, accounting for 38.6% of Volkswagen Group's global sales volume, nearly 40%. It can be seen that the layout of the Chinese market has a certain dominance for Volkswagen. Volkswagen CEO Diss also said that "the Chinese market has the most important significance for the future of Volkswagen Group. It can even be said that the future of Volkswagen Group will be determined by the Chinese market."

According to Volkswagen Group's plan, Volkswagen will launch 10 electric vehicles in China by 2023 and produce 22 million electric vehicles by 2028, half of which will be produced in China. It can be said that Volkswagen is very interested in the domestic new energy market, as is the first pure electric factory established in China this time.
