AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/21 Report--

With the strong support and rapid development of new energy vehicles, the problem of frequent safety accidents continues to attract attention. The successive fires and spontaneous combustion accidents of new energy vehicles of many brands have already become the focus, and people have questioned the safety problems of new energy vehicles. Recently, official authoritative statistics have confirmed that the proportion of new energy vehicle fire accidents is lower than that of traditional fuel vehicles, and the fire accident rate of new energy vehicles in China is significantly lower than that of foreign countries.

It is understood that while promoting new energy vehicles in China, relevant departments have established a national supervision platform for new energy vehicles to monitor new energy vehicles included in the platform in real time. At the Global Smart Travel Conference held on September 20, the construction of the national regulatory platform for new energy vehicles was made public for the first time. As of September 14,2020, the national regulatory platform has accessed 3.47 million vehicles with a total mileage of 162.3 billion kilometers.

At the conference, Sun Fengchun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the National Engineering Laboratory of Electric Vehicles, said that the fire accident rate of new energy vehicles is lower than that of traditional fuel vehicles, and the combustion accident rate of new energy vehicles in China is significantly lower than Tesla. Is this conclusion incredible? Believe it or not, this is what big data says.

Academician Sun Fengchun gave the following seven conclusions according to the data report:

1. The proportion of fire accidents of new energy vehicles is lower than that of traditional fuel vehicles. The fire accident rate of new energy vehicles in China in 2019 is 0.0049%, and the annual fire accident rate of new energy vehicles since 2020 is 0.0026%. According to the data released by the relevant departments of the Ministry of Public Security, the annual fire accident rate of traditional fuel vehicles is about 0.01%~0.02%.

2. The fire accident rate of new energy vehicles in China is significantly lower than that of foreign countries. 2012-2019 Tesla safety reports show that a Tesla vehicle burns every 280 million kilometers traveled. According to the statistics of the 2018-2019 national regulatory platform, a combustion accident occurred every 447 million kilometers of new energy vehicles in China.

3. There are fewer vehicles on fire in large-scale new energy vehicles.

4. Passenger cars account for a large proportion of vehicles on fire. Among the 54 burning vehicles counted at present in 2020,25 are passenger cars, accounting for 46.3%.

5, lithium iron phosphate battery safety is relatively good.

6. There are many vehicles on fire under driving conditions. Specifically, among the vehicles on fire, 31.4% were in static state, 40% in driving state, 17.1% in charging state and 11.4% in unknown state.

7. The accident rate of new energy vehicles manufactured in 2017 and before is relatively high.

The above seven official conclusions are drawn from the big data report of the national regulatory platform for new energy vehicles. Big data is more persuasive than online public opinion.

Of course, what consumers hope more is that manufacturers and relevant departments can quickly start investigations for spontaneous combustion accidents of new energy vehicles, publish accident conclusions in time, and give consumers a clear statement. Vehicles with defects can also be recalled according to the Regulations on the Administration of Defective Automobile Product Recall.

At present, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued mandatory national standards for electric vehicles. In the new standard scheme, the requirements for thermal event alarm signal of battery system are added to remind drivers and passengers; the thermal diffusion test of battery system is added to require that the battery system will not catch fire and explode within 5 minutes after thermal runaway of battery cell, and reserve safe escape time for passengers, etc. The implementation of the new standards can also further ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
