On September 23, the Mazda Division of FAW Group held a meeting on the appointment of senior managers and the implementation of the goal of the new three-year term. At the meeting, Tian Qingjiu, former party committee secretary and general manager of FAW Toyota Motor sales Co., Ltd., officially read out the appointment of the senior general manager of FAW Mazda as the general manager of FAW Mazda.

The appointment includes Wu Tao as director of the comprehensive operations department of Mazda, Guo Deqiang as executive deputy general manager and party committee secretary of FAW Mazda Automobile sales Co., Ltd., Ning Yuwei as deputy party committee secretary and discipline inspection secretary of FAW Mazda Automobile sales Co., Ltd., and Wang Gang as deputy general manager of FAW Mazda Automobile sales Co., Ltd.

Earlier, media reported that Tian Qingjiu, party committee secretary and general manager of FAW Toyota Motor sales Co., Ltd., would be transferred back to FAW Mazda, while Hu Shaohang, who was presided over by the brand public relations department of FAW Group, would be transferred to FAW Toyota vice president and party committee secretary and general manager of FAW Toyota sales Co., Ltd.

According to public data, Tian Qingjiu graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology with a master's degree in management. After graduation, he joined FAW Group and successively held many important positions such as FAW Trade, FAW Toyota, FAW Jilin, FAW Mazda and so on. In November 2017, Tian Qingjiu took up the post of general manager of FAW Toyota Motor sales Co., Ltd. this time, Tian Qingjiu held a meeting in his capacity as general manager of FAW Mazda, which means Tian Qingjiu returned to FAW Mazda after three years.

In early May this year, FAW Group announced that it would adjust the management relationship of FAW Mazda. After the adjustment, the main body of cooperation with Japan's Mazda was changed from FAW Pentium car Co., Ltd. to FAW Group. FAW Group will hold 60% of FAW Mazda Automobile sales Co., Ltd. FAW Group has set up FAW Mazda Division, which is responsible for the whole value chain operation of FAW Mazda Brand. The relevant work will officially belong to China FAW Mazda Division, and is at the same management level as FAW-Volkswagen, FAW Toyota and other companies within the group.

It is worth mentioning that among the three joint venture brands of FAW-Volkswagen, FAW Toyota and FAW Mazda, the sales volume of Mazda brand is the lowest. According to the latest figures released by Mazda China, FAW Mazda sold 52196 vehicles from January to August this year, down 3.2 per cent from 53934 in the same period last year.

The change of FAW Mazda's management relationship within FAW Group is expected to make FAW Mazda regain development opportunities, especially in the introduction of new models, FAW Mazda has been at a standstill for several years. FAW Mazda, FAW-Volkswagen and FAW Toyota are in the same level of management, and will get more resources and priority in the future to get rid of the current stagnation.
