Car dealers cut prices to boost sales, with the biggest discount for American brands

Recently, some media visited a number of car brand 4S stores and learned that the passenger flow of car dealers has rebounded during the two-day period, and various brand models also have varying degrees of discount. Generally speaking, the discount range of American cars is larger, that of Japanese cars is smaller, while that of German models, Korean cars and independent brands is between 10, 000 yuan and 30, 000 yuan.

Among the American brand models, SAIC GM Buick offers the largest discount, with cash discounts of more than 30,000 yuan and individual models of 50,000 yuan. Take Weilang model as an example, the 2.0T luxury model manufacturer's guiding price is 172900 yuan, and the terminal discount is as high as 55000 yuan.

Compared with the above cars, the passenger flow of Korean brands is relatively small. In terms of independent brands, head car companies offer a large range of concessions. For example, the discount range of Great Wall Harvard is about 30, 000 yuan, while Geely Collection A can offer a maximum discount of 45000 yuan. In terms of new energy vehicles, the discount range of both joint venture brands and independent brands is relatively large, generally speaking, the discount range of joint venture brands is larger than that of independent brands, and the same is true of luxury brands than ordinary brands.

According to the China Automobile Association, domestic car sales rose 11.6 per cent to 2.186 million in August 2020, of which sales in the Chinese passenger car market rose 6 per cent to 1.755 million.

Auto industry analysts said that the recovery in sales in the auto market is largely related to the promotional offers of dealers. Dealer 4S stores attract consumers to buy cars through substantial discounts, but the price-for-volume approach also hurts operating profits.

The China Automobile Association predicts that the follow-up government departments will also introduce relevant policies to promote automobile consumption, but the intensity will be relatively weakened, and the pace of the policy will slow down. In a relatively optimistic scenario, sales are expected to fall by about 10 per cent for the whole of 2020.
