AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/09 Report--
E-NCAP in Europe, as one of the most authoritative safety institutions in the automobile industry, has been recognized both inside and outside the industry. Affected by the epidemic, European NCAP, which has been tentatively scheduled for half a year, has already resumed testing. And with the agency's overall upgrade of the test system this year, auxiliary driving has also been added to the test program.
With the development of science and technology, more and more car companies have integrated more self-driving technology into their own models, and take their leading competitive advantage as one of the selling points. In response, Europe's E-NCAP has added new programs to this year's tests, including assisted driving rating (Assisted Driving Gradings), which mainly tests the safety of new cars' auxiliary driving systems on highways. It specifically covers the performance of adaptive cruising, lane maintenance assistance and other driver assistance technology functions.
Although the rating provided by the safety assistance technology in this test will not affect the overall European NCAP star rating of the car, the official will give the vehicle's running condition and accuracy rating "very good", "good", "medium" or "entry" rating for consumers' reference. It is worth noting that the Volvo brand, which developed auxiliary driving technology earlier in the global automobile market, and the Tesla brand, which is a leader in automatic technology, are in the lower-middle level in this test.
According to the E-NCAP 's first batch of auxiliary driving ratings, a total of 10 models were released, three models received the best "very good" rating, one model received a "good" rating, four models received a "medium" rating, and two models received an "entry" rating. Among them, the best performance is taken care of by BBA, although the three models are different levels of models, but the score gap is not big.
What is most surprising is that the Tesla Model 3, which is considered to be one of the more advanced auxiliary models in the market, and the Volvo brand, which is famous for self-driving technology research and safety earlier, only got a "medium" rating in this car market, which is not even as good as Volkswagen, which is a more "civilian" brand.
Specifically, Tesla Model 3 received only a "medium" rating because of its low participation in the autopilot assistance system, which automatically shuts down when the driver bypasses the obstacle. Other systems get better scores because they allow drivers to interact and then automatically reconnect.
Volvo V60 and S60, on the other hand, have lower ratings, mainly because they provide "high level of vehicle assistance and well-balanced driver contact" because testers judge that "vehicle platforms and technologies have aged rapidly and are no longer the most advanced technology." As a result, the results were finally hindered.
By contrast, the best-performing Mercedes-Benz GLE, its testers praised the car's system for providing a lot of clear communication to drivers while driving. The lower-rated Renault Clio and Peugeot 2008 are due to entry-level models that are not equipped with more of these assistive technologies because of cost.
Looking at the latest auxiliary driving test of E-NCAP in Europe, it is not that the more luxurious the driving technology, the better. Even Volvo, which is famous for its safety, and Tesla, who is famous for self-driving technology, have not been given excellent ratings, but in contrast, E-NCAP has more inclination for auxiliary driving test, and each brand still has its own advantages and characteristics for auxiliary driving technology.
