AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/09 Report--
After Geely and Changan Automobile, two independent brands have disclosed the latest production and sales data. According to the released data, both BYD and Great Wall recorded year-on-year growth in September, with the Harvard brand still accounting for the bulk of Great Wall sales, while BYD's fuel vehicle sales declined.
Great Wall Motor increased by 17.79% in September
Great Wall released its latest figures on Oct. 9, showing that car sales in September 2020 were 117812, up 17.79% from a year earlier. The cumulative car sales from January to September were 680690, down 6.00% from a year earlier.
The Harvard brand still accounts for the majority of sales of Great Wall's four brands, which rose 5.14% to 79120 in September, of which the Harvard H6 alone sold 40475, accounting for 34.4% of Great Wall's total sales.
Although Harvard H6 continues to dominate the SUV sales list, it nearly lost its first place in sales in June, leading the Changan CS75 series with only 303 vehicles. At the end of August, the third generation of the Harvard H6 was officially launched, and the "three generations in the same house" sales strategy further increased the sales of the H6, pulling it apart from the Changan CS75 in September, which sold 25724 vehicles in September. In other models, the Harvard M6 and Harvard F7 sold 14801 and 12601, respectively, in September.
In September, Great Wall pickup sales rose 67.29% year-on-year to 22885 vehicles, and cumulative sales in the first three quarters rose 63.17% to 160351 vehicles. Great Wall Gun is one of the important models of Great Wall pickup, which is based on the special platform of Great Wall P71 pickup. It has three product directions: commercial pickup, passenger pickup and cross-country pickup. Due to its advantages in power and price, it has sold a lot since its launch, selling 11200 vehicles in September.
In terms of new energy vehicles, the Euler brand sold 6619 vehicles in September, up 252.64% from the same period last year. Ting sold 23913 vehicles from January to September, down 25.70% from the same period last year. In terms of high-end brands, the WEY brand sold 9037 vehicles in September, up 3.86% from a year earlier, while sales in the first three quarters totaled 50271, down 28.01% from a year earlier.
BYD's new energy car is ready again!
According to sales figures released by BYD, BYD sold 42183 vehicles in September, up 3.57% from a year earlier, while sales in the first three quarters totaled 268975, down 19.90% from a year earlier.
Specifically, BYD sold 19881 new energy vehicles in September, up 45.31% from a year earlier, the first increase after a 14-month decline. However, BYD New Energy sold only 110941 vehicles in the first three quarters, down 42.4% from the same period last year.
While BYD's sales of new energy vehicles increased, sales of fuel vehicles fell. BYD sold 22302 fuel vehicles in September, down 17.55 per cent from a year earlier, but its cumulative sales rose 10.38 per cent to 158034 from January to September, thanks to continued hot sales of fuel vehicles this year.
In fact, the growth of BYD's new energy business is almost synchronized with the trend of the overall new energy market. According to the China Automobile Association, sales of new energy vehicles in August were 109000, an increase of 25.8% over the same period last year.
New energy vehicles, as the main force of BYD's car sales, have continued to decline since the subsidies declined last year, and the rate of decline has been expanding. With the successive introduction of policies to stimulate automobile consumption, the extension of subsidies for the purchase of new energy vehicles and the policy of exemption from purchase tax, coupled with the demand stimulus brought about by the double Mid-Autumn Festival, BYD's sales of new energy vehicles have become regular. However, even so, BYD's total sales of new energy vehicles this year may not be the same as last year.
Since the third quarter, a number of independent car companies have accelerated the launch of new products and gradually narrowed the sales gap. according to the sales volume announced so far, a number of independent brands performed brightly in September, but they are still under great pressure to meet their annual targets in the second half of the year. As of that month, Great Wall had achieved 66.7% of its annual target of 1.02 million vehicles, while BYD accounted for only 58.3% of last year's sales in the first three quarters, based on total sales in 2019.
