AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/10 Report--

With the innovation of new models by automobile companies every year, J.D. Power China recently conducted a report study on new models in the domestic automobile market, and released a 2020 Chinese vehicle performance, operation and design research SM (APEAL, also known as car charm Index Research) report. Research shows that this year's report shows that Porsche and Buick topped the luxury car and mainstream car brand attractiveness index, respectively.

It is understood that J.D Power's research report is aimed at car owners' satisfaction with the vehicle design, content, layout and performance two to six months after buying a new car, from the power of stepping on the throttle to the comfort of sitting in the driver's seat. At the same time, the research includes the new car quality research, science and technology configuration experience research. It can also enable car companies to have a better understanding of consumer preferences, acceptance of new technologies, quality problems of their own models, and so on.

Research shows that the newly launched models (including major changes and new models) account for only 16% of all models this year, and there is no difference between new models and existing models (both 732 points). According to the survey, the performance of newly listed models is better than that of existing models only in terms of fuel economy.

Even if the car companies continue to launch modified models and new models to cope with the changing market preferences and demand, the product charm of the newly listed models has failed to meet consumer expectations. Only post-90s car owners prefer newly listed models (744 points) to existing models (738 points), while other age groups hold the opposite view. The main reason is that post-90s consumers believe that the newly listed models are in the lead in the remote control of vehicles and in-vehicle navigation by smart devices.

Cai Ming, General Manager of Automotive products Division of J.D. Power in China, said: "with the intensification of competition in the auto market, automakers continue to introduce modified models and new models to cope with changing consumer preferences and needs. However, the product charm of newly listed models has not been significantly improved, and the homogenization of materials, configuration and appearance is still perplexing the new product development of automobile brands. How to make the newly listed models have higher product charm in order to bring better market performance has brought new challenges to the new product development of manufacturers. "

2020 China APEAL

The research on the brand shows that the charm of other brands except Korean brands has been improved. Among them, the American brand index rose to 20 points (737); Japanese brands (737 points) and European brands (736 points) increased by 20 points and 14 points respectively over the previous year; Korean brands (734 points) were slightly lower than last year's 3 points; independent brands (718 points) improved by 25 points compared with 2019, but there is still much room for improvement.

Specifically, Porsche (770) ranked first for luxury car brands, while Jaguar (757) and BMW (748) ranked second and third, respectively. Buick ranked first among mainstream car brands, while Dongfeng Nissan and FAW Toyota ranked second and third, respectively.

2020 China APEAL

This study is the 18th year that J.D. Power has carried out the research on automobile charm index in China, and it is also the first year that the research has been updated synchronously in the Chinese and American markets. The study covers 241 models from 57 brands. What do you think of this report?
